Description: A view from the southern end of Ocean Beach, better known as St Clair Beach, or Second Beach, of the newly-built Cargill's Castle ('the Cliffs'), sitting atop the cliff. A large outbuilding can be seen to the west of the house. The painting is taken from the dunes of the beach, and the figures of people, including one on a horse, are visible 'The Cliffs' was completed in 1877. Later images show the extensive planting in front of the house, which was built in concrete to withstand the elements.
