Description: Album recording a motoring and camping holiday through the South Island of New Zealand. This took in the New Zealand South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin and included the West Coast, Otago, and Canterbury. The central part of the album has images of Khandallah, Wellington, and the family home in that suburb. Family photographs include Doug on his Norton Motorcycle, and Jack and Neville similarly posed on a Douglas Motorcycle. Rene and Frank stand at the net holding tennis rackets, and mother has several images with young Joyce. The last part of the album recordes something of a holiday to Auckland where the family camped at Brown's Bay and took a trip to Kawau Island. A group shot on Mt Messanger on the way back and some views of Pukekura Park New Plymouth complete the album Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).

Description: Album of photographs taken in the Otago and Southland Regions, by unidentified photographers. All the locations are well identified. Some of the images are related to railways, including railway tunnels (e.g. The Caversham Tunnel when under construction circa 1909), and the Hunts Road Tunnel; the Clutha Railway Bridge; the Wingatui Signal Box; the Balclutha Railway Station, railway yards, and sales-yards; railway barns; D-class engine (New Zealand Railways steam-engine No. 355); the Owaka Express; and bush tramway tracks, one sawmill typical of small mills in the Catlins area. Many of the images are taken with an emphasis on atmosphere, including sunsets, stormy days on the coast near Dunedin, evening at Ocean Beach, storm clouds at Lawyer's Head, and "By beach and sand-hill". Description: Photograph album formerly belonging to Phyllis Johnston. Contain images taken during visit to South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin and a North Island road trip. Compiler of albums, and photographer(s), are unidentified. Album is extensively captioned. - Images of Dunedin area are taken during a holiday to the New Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition in 1924-1925. Photographs of sights include a bus trip to Waipori via Outram (including the Waipori River and power station), St Clair Beach (including the Baths and Tomahawk), waves at Ocean Beach, Dunedin Botanic Gardens, Portobello, Harbour Ferry, Octagon and Cathedral, Dunedin Train Station, Stewart Street Cable Car, Otago University Clock Tower, Otago Boys High, Evansdale river scenes, and North East Valley. Exhibition photos show the Exhibition Buildings, the grand court water feature, 'Maori House', and Amusement Park 'The Three Castles' (including the entrance and the 'Ye Old Mill River Caves' roller coaster and 'Giant's Mouth' rides). - Album also covers a January 1928 North Island road trip in a Model T Ford, departing from Levin. Camping grounds, camping sites, the preparation of meals and washing up, car with camping awning erected and camping gear packed on side, picnics, and tourist sites are featured. The route travelled, as suggested by the order of the images, is via Hastings, Napier, Taupo and lake area, Wairakei thermal area, Rotorua and Ohinemutu and lake area (including Rotoiti, Tarawera, and Rotomahana), Hamilton, Auckland (including Titirangi, Henderson, and Devonport), Waitomo, New Plymouth, and Inglewood. Notable sights and activities photographed include: Hastings Garden entrance with Maori carvings; Taurangakuma River; Mohaka River; Lake Taupo scenes from boat tour; Huka Falls; Aratiatia Rapids; various thermal sights including the Opal Pool and Eagles Nest Geyser at Wairakei; Whakarewarewa thermal area with model pa, tour group, and children diving for pennies; Boiling Lake and other sights in Waimangu Valley; Rotorua Sanatorium including Bath House and entrance to Government Gardens; Okere Falls; Hinemoana's Bath; fish at Fairy Spring; hunting for oysters, Titirangi; Albert Park, Auckland; polar bears at Auckland Zoo; tourist series of Waitomo Caves; Mokau bridge; Pukekura Park and Paritutu Rock, New Plymouth; and an unidentified house and tennis match. - Album contains portraits of two children called Joyce and Beverley. Joyce is also photographed at the South Seas Exhibition with a woman identified only as 'B.G.K' [Miss B G Kirk?]. The North Island Road trip images include numerous image of three unidentified women; this series also includes a family portrait of the Bailey Family beside a car. - Loose prints show Whitianga (Mercury Bay and Buffalo Beach), an unidentified group by pool of fish [Fairy Spring, Rotorua?], a print with two images (Ball Hut and Lake Pukaki), and an unidentified city scape [Dunedin?]. Information relating to the content as well as the date taken and the date printed, is on the rear of most prints. Identified people are: Senior Sergeant George Christopher Donnelly of Hokitika police; Ivy Harper and Bert Birchfield; Mike Armstrong and Jim Daken; Mary and Heather Cornwell; Charleston coal mine operator Neil Mouat; Mack Heinz; Tex Smith; Mike Armstrong; Henry Heveldt and M Bennett of Nolan's Mill; Garth Graham; meat shooters Mike Bennett and Kevin Blythell; John 'Opo' Angus, the Eggling brothers; helicopter pilot Ben Morris and Les's wife Mary Cleveland; and Johnny Hewer, Claire Easterbrook and Liam Easterbrook in front of the Neils Beach school house. Featured natural environments include the hot springs at Welcome Flat and the Karangarua Valley, River, Ranges, and the view from the Sefton bivouac, Ocean Beach, and Neils Beach, including car wrecks at the rubbish dump. Other images (and series of images) of note include scenes from the Kumara races; environmental damage (slips and road works at Milford Tunnel, Inangahua River road, and Haast and Jackson's Bay area; open face coal mining at Charleston; deer hunting, largely based in Mussel Point; Central Otago Hotels (Cardrona, White Horse, and Vulcan); Post Offices and boxes (St Bathan's, Outram, Ophir, and Dunedin) and a Pacific Films crew on Fox Glacier. Also includes images of James Heveldt's grave (Jackson's Bay), Peregrine Vinyard, a new house in Bannockburn, a girl in a Westport ice cream parlour, women in a Carter's Sawmill shop, a Hokitika cake stall, and various shop fronts and signage in Dunedin, Gore, and on the West Coast.
