Description: Street scene at Port Chalmers, ca 1868. Looking along southern George Street to John Crickmore's Royal Hotel and brick stables. The stables were built in 1867. There is an ornate light outside, which was a legal requirement for all public houses. Several people are standing on the first floor verandah, and there is a small group at the main door. Physical Description: Wet collodion glass negative 6.5 x 4.75 inches Processing information: The name John Crickmore was corrected after checking the source given, previously described as John Crickford but that seems to have been a mistake.
