Description: Loose photographs extracted from album (PA1-o-1549). Includes photographs of a hill climbing sports car event, sports car club meeting, Wellington beaches, Wellington suburbs and housing developments, and the construction of a house. Mr Hird was an electrical designer, involved in the development of television, designing radios for Sir Edmund Hillary in Antarctica, and was apparently in radio surveillance in WW2. His father taught at Seatoun school. Mr Hird lived most of his life in the house at Mantell Street. See 'Freedom' newspaper, 25 Nov 1953, p.6 re his involvement in developing television. Description: Album recording a motoring and camping holiday through the South Island of New Zealand. This took in the New Zealand South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin and included the West Coast, Otago, and Canterbury. The central part of the album has images of Khandallah, Wellington, and the family home in that suburb. Family photographs include Doug on his Norton Motorcycle, and Jack and Neville similarly posed on a Douglas Motorcycle. Rene and Frank stand at the net holding tennis rackets, and mother has several images with young Joyce. The last part of the album recordes something of a holiday to Auckland where the family camped at Brown's Bay and took a trip to Kawau Island. A group shot on Mt Messanger on the way back and some views of Pukekura Park New Plymouth complete the album Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).

Images taken between 1960 to 1969; mostly by Horsman. - One set of images shows Horsman with others [probably former shipmates and a fellow teacher at Okaihau District High School] on holiday in the Bay of Islands, shows: caravaning, beach and bush scenes around Paihia, a ship in the bay, Waitangi flagpole, Cortina and Consul cars. - One set of images of the 'Mon-Star Rally' and the 'Great Northern Rally' holidays shows roadside scenes and beaches around Northland. Letters include description of train travel, camping, trout fishing, driving and road conditions (including other traffic, punctures, getting bogged down, and pot holes), huts "swaggers whare", Waitomo Caves and glow worms, Maori history, manuka, tui birds, and swimming in lakes and rivers. Places he visits include Mokoia, Awakino, Te Kuiti, Waitomo, Hamilton, Tauranga, Whakatane, Opotiki, Gisborne, Lake Waikaremoana, Wairoa, Lake Tutira, and Napier.
