Description: View of the lower east side of Queen Street, Auckland, taken from the west side of the street. Shows row of premises of Williams and Co (far left on corner with Fort Street), Ship Chandlers and Sailmakers, E & H Isaacs, General Merchants, W. Brighton, Outfitters, New Zealand Insurance Company offices, P.A. Philips, Ironmonger, T. Delattre, Homeopathic Pharmaceutist. Several men stand beside a variety of horse drawn carriages and handsome cabs which are parked along Queen Street. Taken by unknown photographer circa 1865 - 1866. Description: View from a high point of early Auckland, looking down over the town, with the spire of St Paul's Church in the distance and the barracks outlined against the sea towards the right, past North Head towards Rangitoto. Description: View of Auckland Town Hall taken from Queen Street with the statue of Sir George Grey on the left and Grey Street on the right. A large crowd is gathered and all are looking towards the photographer. On the right is a horse and cart with a number of young men standing on board, some with cards in their hatbands. The reason for the gathering is not indicated but it may have been to listen to speeches by a politican or trade unionist. The business premises of George Higgins, bootmaker can be seen on the right behind the crowd. Photograph taken by William A Price, ca 1912-1914. Description: View from the end of the wharf at the foot of Queen Street, looking towards the waterfront buildings and up Queen Street, with Partington's windmill on the skyline. A line of barrels along the wharf and two containers of goods, a man wheeling a wheelbarrow, another wheeling a barrow, two soldiers, other groups of citizens, Maori canoes and a rowboat drawn up at the water's edge on the left and groups of Maori sitting. The Wesleyan (Methodist) Chapel is on the left, above the first row of buildings. A version in oils of this view is in the Mitchell Library, Sydney. An uncoloured lithograph is also held (by the Turnbull Library) at C-010-005. The Library also holds watercolour copies of this view by W. S. Hatton, copied from an Illustrated London News wood engraving from this print, at B-078-012 and B-078-017 and the Mitchell, too, has a watercolour copy by Hatton, an English artist who confined his work to copies of views in the Illustrated London News. Description: Shows a bird's-eye view of the company's premises at Custom Street West, Auckland, with the Joinery and Box Departments at the left, and the head office at the right. The two sections are joined by an overhead walkway. The far left shows sailing ships tied up at the wharves. In the foreground are neat piles of sawn timber, and in the wide corridor between the buildings, horses and carts move with their loads of timber.
