Description: Shows a bird's-eye view of the company's premises at Custom Street West, Auckland, with the Joinery and Box Departments at the left, and the head office at the right. The two sections are joined by an overhead walkway. The far left shows sailing ships tied up at the wharves. In the foreground are neat piles of sawn timber, and in the wide corridor between the buildings, horses and carts move with their loads of timber. Description: Daily log and diary of William Hodkinson, passenger on the sailing ship Phenix of the White Star Line, from Auckland to Liverpool. Covers farwell visit from his late business partners, John Booth, F Sheppard and William D Wilkie, fire at Denny's hotel and at clothier shop of Mr Poole, a stowaway, fights and quarrels among crew and passengers, kauri cargo being ditched because of ship's leaks. Includes some reference to the war in the Taranaki Source of title - Supplied William Hodkinson originally went out to Australia but had subsequently spent some years in New Zealand before sailing for Liverpool with his family Quantity: 1 microfilm reel(s).
