Description: In December 1962 the Pascoe family went for a climbing holiday in the Arthurs Pass area. There are photographs of Dorothy and the girls with mountaineering friend, Michael Clark among the mountains. The album is also a record of the transalpine crossing from the Waitaha in Westland to the Rakaia made by John Pascoe, Michael Clark and Stan Conway in January 1963. At the end of the crossing John reconnected with his family and there is a photograph of them as a group dated 18 January 1963. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).

Description: The people in these photographs look like tourist groups who have just got out of a bus. They are photographed aginst scenic backdrops of forest covered hills, river valleys and mountains; they are showen picnicing in similar locations; some of the locations are identifiable and include Otira, Otira Gorge and Tunnel, Arthurs Pass, and the gravel reaches of the upper Waimakariri River. Description: Photograph album of prints, showing images of scenes around New Zealand, taken by Frank Arnold Coxhead from circa 1864 to circa 1890s. Compiler of album unidentified. Most prints have captions. - Includes images of scenes around Milford Sound, Queenstown-Lakes District and George Sound, which include images of lakes, ships, people, and buildings. - Also includes images of Christchurch, including the Christchurch Cathedral, the Victoria Bridge (with a caption inscribed in pencil saying 'Law Courts'), the Avon River, the Christchurch Botanical Gardens, Sumner and Shag Rock. - Also includes images of Auckland including Albert Park, North Shore, Auckland Hospital and a waterfall at Lucas Creek. - Also includes a series of images taken from what is described as the 'Hokitika Road' (Arthur's Pass) including the Otira Gorge, the Devil's Punchbowl, Mount Rolleston and Mount Philistine. - Also includes images of Dunedin including the Octagon (which includes images of horses and carts, buildings and roads), North East Valley, Leith Valley, Port Chalmers, and Dunedin Botanic Garden. - Also includes an image of a group of Maori standing outside Tamatekapua wharenui (meeting house) at Ohinemutu, and an image of (mainly Maori) people at Ateamuri [sic], Waikato. This includes two pairs of men shaking hands, and horses and carts. Description: Photographs taken by John Dobree Pascoe and others in the Southern Alps. They include views of mountaineers; views of mountain ranges and valleys; mountain huts and life enjoyed by the mountaineers. One sequence (pages 129-140) show aspects of the search for the body of Edgar Russell who died on Mount Avalanche in 1933. They show the location where he was lost on 30th July 1933, the search party, and the routes they took to search, finally succeeding on 6th August 1933. Pages 99-100, 83-84, and 105-106 show the building and completion of the Athur's Pass Canterbury Mountaineering Club mountain hut; page 87 has an indistinct view of the unveiling of the Arthur Dobson Memorial, on 18th April 1937 (5 km north of Arthur's Pass Village). Most of the photographs re fully described with names usually given with initials and surnames, or nicknames. Many of the people and places photographed are listed above.
