When one of them says that the shock waves were felt as far away as Hawaii the second man thinks he is talking about the earthquake in Fiordland but the third man says they are talking about Winston Peters apologising in an email to New Zealand First members. Leader of New Zealand First Winston Peters lost his seat in the 2008 election and his party did not reach the 5% threshold to win seats in parliament. Nine months ago Winston Peters was dodging accusations of undeclared donations and money being funnelled through secret trust funds, as well as a serious fraud office inquiry but now he wants to return to politics. The earthquake on 15 July was of 7.8 magnitude; it was centred in Fiordland, and was felt widely throughout the South Island and as far north as Taranaki.
