Description: The scene is Muldoon's parliamentary office. His outline is sitting at the desk. His secretary has opened the office door to find anti-nuclear protestors outside but cannot say if Muldoon is there or not. In the waste paper basket is a newspaper announcing that Tom Scott, a Listener journalist, is still being barred by Muldoon from accompanying the official delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in India in September 1980. Description: Arrangement of text with central panel showing two scenes: at left the guards sleeping at the U S missile depot; and at right, some sheep asking Mr Thompson about Tangimoana. He replies that it is an installation for rersearch and rescue operations to help and protect New Zealanders. The text below suggests that Tangimoana is part of a US world-wide electronic spying system called Bullseye, and is probably a foreign base. This is likely to make New Zealand a nuclear target. Description: The cartoon shows a small island, New Zealand, with a small pipe reading, Motunui, dripping small amounts of pollution into the sea. Looking over their shoulders the New Zealanders notice a Frenchman from another island waving and saying hello. He is standing next to a pipe that reads, Mururoa, which is pouring huge amounts of pollution into the sea. The New Zealander's look shocked. Description: An Australian is standing beside a bog that is named the "ANZUS Bog". In the middle of the bog two hands are reaching from below the surface with a sign that says "Anti-Nuke Legislation" and a voice, also from below the surface says, `Well what do you think?'. The cartoon refers to the New Zealand anti nuclear stance and how it affected international relations. A mess had been made of ANZUS and New Zealand was trying to patch it up. Description: Pamphlet issued ahead of the Convention on International Relations in Auckland (on 7-13 September 1954). The front cover shows a photograph of a mushroom cloud over a Pacific setting with palm trees. Inside is a report of a determination by churchmen to hold a convention "to promote international understanding and a worldwide allegiance to the purpose of the Charter of the United Nations". The hope was to reduce and control armaments and meet the challenge of nuclear energy. Urges readers to publicise the event, give financial support and send delegates to the convention. Description: Album of photographs recording the New Zealand Peace Ribbon, a continuous string of banners expressing "what I cannot bear to think of as lost forever in a nuclear war" that in Wellington went from the United States Embassy in Thorndon to the Russian Embassy in Karori, Sunday, 9 October 1986. This idea had originated with an American woman, Justine Merritt, who in 1982 organised the first of such ribbons and used it to circle the Pentagon and other public buildings in Washington DC as a protest against the arms race and nuclear war. In 1986 Barbara Holt of the United Nations International Year of Peace Aotearoa Committee took up this idea, and with the help of Justine Merritt who happened to be visiting friends in New Zealand at the time, launched a successful publicity campaign for the project.
