Description: Album recording a motoring and camping holiday through the South Island of New Zealand. This took in the New Zealand South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin and included the West Coast, Otago, and Canterbury. The central part of the album has images of Khandallah, Wellington, and the family home in that suburb. Family photographs include Doug on his Norton Motorcycle, and Jack and Neville similarly posed on a Douglas Motorcycle. Rene and Frank stand at the net holding tennis rackets, and mother has several images with young Joyce. The last part of the album recordes something of a holiday to Auckland where the family camped at Brown's Bay and took a trip to Kawau Island. A group shot on Mt Messanger on the way back and some views of Pukekura Park New Plymouth complete the album Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).

Description: Rough sketch looking south towards Akaroa Harbour entrance from the shore of Duvauchelle Bay. There are outlines of people on the foreshore, a house or two along the beach to the right and the hull of a partly-constructed boat further away. There is also a coastal profile along the top of the page, probably of the Canterbury alps from the sea. The phrase Gorge of Rakia above the coastal profile may be a mistake for Gorge of Rakaia Chevalier visited Akaroa in April 1866. However he also visited Dunedin in 1868 and may have added this sketch to Hodgkins sketchbook at the later date. Description: A panoramic view of Akaroa Harbour with the houses of German Bay (Takamatua Bay on the east side of the Harbour, north of Akaroa township) on the right, with the name Breitmeier (i.e. Breitmeyer) written below the nearest house. A small blockhouse can be seen on the beach. Onawe Peninsula is seen from the side across the centre of the view and the western hills are in the distance Mantell was in Akaroa from 1848 to 1849. This view is dated 1849 because the style and paper match the panoramic view on the same page of the sketchbook from Port Cooper (Lyttelton) dated August 1849. Inscriptions: Recto - bottom left - title; also 'German Bay' in ink, bottom right, and 'Breitmeier' in pencil below the foreground house on the right Quantity: 3 drawing(s).
