Description: There are two scenes. In the first we see a reporter with a hand-held vieo-recorder interviewing three black people, presumably refugees from New Orleans after the Hurricane Katrina disaster. The father is saying cynically that after ten days the water looked so much like oil that President Bush got interested. This refers to his rather slow response to the disaster. In the second scene we see Winston Peters throwing mud, (presumably at an unseen Bob Clarkson). This refers to his falling behind National candidate, Bob Clarkson, in the polls, and slinging an old sexual harrassment accusation at him. Leader of New Zealand First Winston Peters lost his seat in the 2008 election and his party did not reach the 5% threshold to win seats in parliament. Nine months ago Winston Peters was dodging accusations of undeclared donations and money being funnelled through secret trust funds, as well as a serious fraud office inquiry but now he wants to return to politics. The earthquake on 15 July was of 7.8 magnitude; it was centred in Fiordland, and was felt widely throughout the South Island and as far north as Taranaki. Description: The huge shadow of Winston Peters, the leader of NZ First, falls across the wall and along the floor as PM John Key and leader of the Labour Party Phil Goff make their state of the nation speeches to mark the run up to the 2011 election that will be held 26 November. Context - John Key has announced that the National Party will not work with Winston Peters in any governing coalition; he has said 'if Peters is to be a kingmaker, it will only be in a government led by Phil Goff which is possibly an attempt to invoke the Peters bogey to scare people off voting for Goff. This will probably make Peters stronger because the likely result of Key's announcement will be that Labour will not embrace Peters either - and thus, the New Zealand First leader will be able to maximize his appeal by promising to sit on the cross benches and keep both the major parties honest.
