Description: Shows a mock-advertisement for the 'Mayoralty Melee' in which 'Bob "Posie" Parker' is seen in a boxing ring fighting 'Jim "Lefty" Anderton'. Parker wears a floral outfit and conspicuously displays a large amount of money, labelled 'CCC funds' from his back pocket. Anderton, meanwhile, wears a dressing gown and slippers, and is attended by his cat. Refers to the news that MP Jim Anderton, leader of the Progressive Party, was intending to stand for the Christchurch mayoralty against then-incumbent Bob Parker. Parker won the election in November that year, largely as a result of his performance in the wake of the September Canterbury earthquake A digital version of this cartoon can be seen at DCDL-0014320 Inscriptions: Recto - top right - Al Nisbet [in ink] Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s).
