Description: Photographs of and relating to the Wilson family ex Eketahuna. William M Wilson was born in Glasgow in 1868, coming to New Zealand when 8 years of age. He was apprenticed to John Fitchett, coach builder in Wellington, then with other firms including Rouse & Hurrell. He was employed by Wilfred Woolf in Eketahuna in 1894, and subsequently bought his business, and entered the firm of Kibblewhite and Wilson. See Cyclopedia of New Zealand, Wellington Provincial District, Eketahuna. Includes dwellings; carriages; group outings and portraits; 1 of the Club Hotel of F D Pelling; 3 of the Ryan family at Tawa Flat; 1 of a house at Island Bay, 1 of a thatched whare at Plimmerton, a Ghuznee St boarding house; 2 relating to the Burnett family; 2 scenes in Manakau; 1 of D A Greenlees store; 2 of Rarotanga; 2 relating to the business of Lyon & Blair, steam printers and lithographers; 1 of a group outside a house in Eastbourne; 3 relating to the Manson family; 1 of a military camp in New Zealand in preparation for the South African War. Edward Morrah (Ned) Halpin (7/2/08 - 8/11/91) married Athena Annie Caran (1900 - 30/11/69) in 1936. He spent his single life in Palmerston North and his married life in Fielding. Early photos of wife taken between 1924 and 1936. Later photos of wife posted to him in middle east. He owned a camera and a car, and the photographs from the 1920s were taken on summer holidays. Description: Two women seated and weaving, their work stretched on on sticks on the ground. Kete hanging from the walls of the whare and food parcels hanging down from the ceiling, along with a large bundle of dried flax. A small fire burns outside the whare. The pa is almost certainly Taupo Pa at Plimmerton, visited by the artist in September 1844 and drawn on the other side of this sheet of paper. Original sketch for a lithograph reproduced in G. F.
