The invasion of the Falkland Islands by Argentina was opposed by New Zealand who offered a frigate to Britain to fill in on stations where British warships were being withdrawn to fight in the Falklands, This move could have been seen as either old empire thinking or an attempt to curry favour with the Thatcher government.
