Shows area of Sterling dredging claim in the Coromandel Harbour, Albion extended SSBC and old central SSBC, an area of 50 acres. Description: Topographical map showing an area between the Cobb and Takaka Rivers at top section of the map and Mataki Stream, The Growler and Hodge Creek at the bottom section of the map, within the Flora Survey District. Shows additional creek and stream names, spot heights, G.S.Camp, and Chaffey Hut. Parallel running, orange coloured, broken lines suggest the location of tracks. Black broken lines edged in pink colour are identified by an annotation stating 'serpentines and other aqueous rocks edged in pink'. Small green swirls are also drawn in various places across the map possibly indicating the bush line. No legend exists to identify the meaning of these. An area located in the centre of the map by black broken lines and divided by Asbestos Creek contains the information, C26 and 146 acres. Red ink markings are indentified as Evan's cut, tunnel 60 feet, trench, quarry, Holland's and trench. A penciled annotation written along side this area says, 'general strike of asbestos country'. A note at the bottom of the map states 'C26 is bounded by Crown lands on all sides'. Description: Comprises folders of letters from David Ziman to his son, Herbert, and to wife, Lena, correspondence with his brother, Jacob Ziman, some newspaper clippings and papers relating to the disposal of his estate after his death. Also includes papers relating to North Blackwater Mines Ltd and the Consolidated Gold Mines Company. Source of title - Supplied Arrangement: Shortly before his death, Herbert Ziman arranged his father's papers in the order as listed. David Ziman, a founding member of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, had his attention drawn to the quartz gold mining potential at Reefton, which in 1895 was in depression. With the Rothschilds backing, Ziman formed the Consolidated Gold Fields of New Zealand Ltd which mined at Reefton until 1951. Ziman also put money into oil exploration and other ventures of a marginal profitability. Quantity: 14 folder(s). 0.20 Linear Metres. Description: Album of photographs chiefly taken by Roland James Searle, circa 1930s. The first subject is the opening of the Wellington Citizens' War Memorial (Cenotaph), and includes a programme of the dedication and handing over on Sunday 17th April, 1932 (p 001-012). That is followed by the consecration ceremony for the National War Memorial and War Memorial Carillon (again with a copy of the programme), held on Anzac Day, April 25th, 1932 (p 015-023). Pages 029-033 show the arrival of the Wellington Jubilee Dock in 1931, the floating dock which was towed from England by two Dutch tugboats. The next sequence is entitled "The Express pulls out - Thorndon", and follows the Express to Wanganui where views show a river-boat trip up the Whanganui River (p 037-056), and include a map of historical areas on the river compiled by Annabell & Marchant, surveyors of Wanganui (p 055). The train trip is continued in the next section, and includes an illustrated diagram of the Raurimu Spiral, then arrival at the new Beach Road Auckland Railway Station. Photographs of Auckland include the Auckland Institute and Museum, Auckland University, Grafton Bridge, a sailing ship at the wharves, and the Auckland Zoo. Further North there are scenes of ploughing, a mine entrance, rock formations at Waro, and the Taheke Falls; before travelling to Rotorua and the surrounding thermal regions. A number of images were taken at Whakarewarewa, including photos of Paul Thomas and his wife, along with scenes showing women washing clothes in hot pools, a woman with a baby on her back holding a rope with a food basket cooking in the pool, children in a hot pool, and men at work carving. Paul Thomas wrote to thank Searle for sending him copies of photographs (p 101, written on May 1st 1932). Later photographs again with the train often in view show timber felling and milling, and views of the Arapuni hydroelectic power station. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Plans for constructing a water race from peg 8 miles 40 chains to peg 10 miles 60 chains for the company 'Hohonu Diamond Terrace Gold Mining and Water Race Company Limited'. Work to be performed by John Gilbert of Kumura and Leonard Tomasi of Cape Terrace. The three large maps (Acc.37275-7) each contain two diagrams. The upper diagram depicts the path of the water race for up to one mile, across creeks. The lower diagram is a cross section indicating wall, bench level (bottom of ditch 4'6" below level), height above datum 400 feet, banks, cuttings, bench, formation level (line pegged to bench level), reduced Do. (with corresponding figures), distances and gradients. Sheets are numbered no. 12-14. The smaller map (Acc.37278) (blueprint, scale [1:24], 20 x 21 cm), depicts the measurements of an open ditch, its depth, the bench level and a diagonal gradient.
