Photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1912 and 1949 at Lower Hutt. Note on back of file print reads "Godber 99, p 4" "Wg" 492 entered service on the 21st of August 1912 and was written off in February 1956 (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand Railways steam locomotives, 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974, page 64.) This image is reproduced in "Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives" by A N Palmer and W W Stewart (P 100) which says where the photograph was taken. Description: E Class steam locomotive, no 66, "Pearson's Dream" with Albert Percy Godber at the driver's door. Photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber at the Petone Railway Workshops. Dated from similar image, information on back of file print APG-1401-1/2. This engine was built at the Petone Railway Workshops in 1905. It was designed by G A Pearson for use on the Rimutaka Incline. Because of faults in the mechanism it was modified with an outside exhaust, and an additional expansion dome, ca 1912; broken up in 1917.
