Description: A base map, Plan of Section 23 Ngarara, Kaitawa S.D. Block III, near Waikanae, has been used to name fields belonging to the Elder family farm. Boundaries of the fields are marked on the base map with acreages and a few include the name H. Elder. The site of the Elder family home is marked. The property has the Waikanae River, Wellington and Manawatu Railway, and the Hutt-Waikanae Road as boundaries. A sum total of acreages was handwritten on the base map, Other names of landowners included are C.C.H., W.H. Field, Beachams. Title handwritten on reverse of map Waimahoe is the name of N.L. Description: Drawn on a base map of Owahanga Station, the annotations depict pā sites, (including terraced pā), middens (deposits of shells or animal bones indicating human settlement) and pits along the Mataikona River. Several comments are written on the map such as the bulldozing of sites, pit size, locality of farm buildings. Drawn by P.J.P. Base map: 'Owahanga Station' (ms map?, 1964). Surveyed by R G Lockie. This map names paddocks, buildings, and describes land use. Gives topographical information. Includes enlargement of the layout of the station's farm buildings such as wool shed, cook house, and shearing quarters. Map consists of two sheets glued together. Description: A plan of J.E. Chamberlain's farm, adjacent to Upper Plains Road, shows four numbered sections with fencelines, trees, details of growing crops, sites of a homestead, houses, a stable and a water race which runs through all sections. Sections one and two are listed as sold and three and four include acreages. Other adjacent property belongs to Cripps and McFarwalts, [handwriting difficult to decipher], while property across the Upper Plains Road includes the names of J.E. Chamberlain, Mr. Cohalton, Mr. McLeod. Chamberlain Street is marked. A locality plan of Chamberlain's Estate, Upper Plains is mounted in top left corner. This gives the proximity of the Chamberlain's estate to Masterton. A nearby village is included and streets are named. The site of the railway station and railway line are marked. Four cuttings from the sale notice of Chamberlain's estate are mounted along the top of this map. Notices refer to the water supply, a description of the land, conditions of sale relating to the terms of interest as well as the locality plan. Title partly supplied by cataloguer. Part - title on the reverse of the map has been qualified with the name of the town of Masterton Map appears to have been mounted on part of the original sales notice and this title can be read from the verso Scale of main map is [1: 1 584]. Description: Cadastral map of the area of Titahi Bay from Kapakakanui and Ohangahao creeks along the coastline to Rocky Bay, in Block 11 Paikakariki [i.e. Paekakariki] Survey District. Numbered sections are adjacent to the Titai [i.e Titahi] Creek and the Landing [stage], include acreages and boundary measurements, while some sections have monetary values in pounds sterling noted. Proposed sections and roads are pencilled in, and adjoin the numbered sections in the subdivision, College Reserve and Part No. 110. Some reserves include acreages and boundary measurements. Terrace and Lambley roads are named as are Richard, Whanake, Te Hiko and Morere streets which are intersected by John Street. Includes Bay Drive which intersects with the road from Porirua and a proposed road along the bay is marked. The site of Mr. Jillett's homestead is marked. Numerous springs and creeks are marked. Topographic features along the coast include caves, Pinnacle Rocks and bathing holes. Cook Strait is named. Description: Topographic map of the area from Lake Wairarapa to Matarawa to the Pairoa Range and the Aorangi Mountains. A note on the map states that it is a tracing from a ca. 1855 sketch map held at the Turnbull Library, by A.G. Bagnall, ca. 1966, showing land blocks and runholders names, Maori land, and various Maori names for natural features. McNaughten's property, of 2000 acres, is situated between the Mangauru and Waihora Rivers, adjacent to the proposed road to the beach. The road from Wellington is marked and the line of a proposed road to the beach. Oteraia [i.e Otaraia] Pa, Burlings Hotel and Nix's Hotel are marked. Names include Borlese, Morrison, Butler, Tucker, Brierly, Smith & Revens, Gillies, W.H. Smith, McNaughten, Bidwill. Scale of original [ca.1:126 720] A.G. Description: Cadastral manuscript map of part of the Lansdowne Estate adjacent to the homestead. Numbered sections include acreages and boundary measurements. Pencilled annotations include names of French Street, Raglan Street, Robert Street now known as Roberts Road. Pencilled annotions also show an extension to the homestead, the site of W. H. Cruickshank's house, a creek, Nitz Bros. property, the site of the old hospital, Te Ore Ore Road. The second cadastral map is a sales map by W. B. Chennells, auctioneer, for the sale of four sections, each 95 acres of agricultural land, offered for sale by Messrs. McGregor Bros. of Lower Manaia. The area encompassed lies between the main Masterton to Gladstone Road and the Waingawa River. Includes seven numbered sections with the site of McGregor's Homestead. Good deep soil is noted, high land and the site of a pond. Includes notes on the agriculture of the area, mentioning the adjoining dairy farm of J. E. Pond. No scale is given. This sales notice refers to the Times, Masterton, N.Z. The third map is a sales map by Langley Shaw, land agent of Hamilton, or Samuel Vaile & Sons, 95 Queen Street, Auckland and Hamilton. Okauia, the 9000 acre property, adjoins Mata Mata, Maungawhero and Selwyn Estates and is situated near Mata Mata and Hinuera railway stations. 'B' Portion No. 1 Block is subdivided into five farms for private sale. The farms, encompassed by the Waihou or Thames River, Okoroira River and the road to Tauranga, include acreages and boundary measurements. Several roads run through the farms, named and give directions to Mata Mata, Okoroire and Hinuera, Te Aroha, Tauranga. The Waiomau Stream is marked. Each farm includes a description of the terrain, i.e. flat country, bush, low hills. One section of 200 acres is owned by Bates. A printed note, mounted to the right of the map, gives information about the state of the land, prices per acre and term deposits, also the adjoining Mangawhero Estate recently purchased by the Government to be subdivided for close settlement. Adjacent to Okauia is McGuire's property, described as grass land with pine trees, also Heaney's property described as grass land, and the Selwyn Estate. Scale [1:31 680] The locality plan shows the location of 'B' Portion of Okouia No. 1 Block. 'A' Portion of Okouia No. 1 is shown and Okouia No. 4. The area is encompassed by the Waihou or Thames River and the railway line from Walton to Oxford, including named railway stations. The Mangawhero Stream and the Maungawhero Estate are named. Description: Map of Maori land blocks in the Wairarapa, namely the Te Awaite and Pahaua Block, Werita's Pahaua Block and Arama Karaka's Block. Te Awaite is bounded by the Kapuni River, southwards to the Awhea River, northwards by the Pahaua River and eastwards by the coast. Shows the Oterei and the Kerewakaite Creek, a Maori track from Te Awaite to Hautotara, the home of a settler named Cameron, the Riddiford's homestead next to the Te Awaite Pa, Auariki Reserve and Pukororo Reserve. On the western boundary is 500 acres belonging to Te Marutuna and others. Werita's Pahaua Block is northeast of the Pahaua River; northwest is Arama Karaka's Block (about 3900 acres).
