Description: The letters are written during the period October 1882 to January 1887 by both William Forster and Helen Mills to their parents and family in England. The letters deal mainly with their life at Sudbury, although the earlier ones deal with William Forster's time in Wanganui looking for land. William Forster Mills emigrated to New Zealand in 1880. Description: The collection comprises diaries kept by George on the farm for the period 1900-1903 which describe daily events in detail, such as family outings, household chores, trips to Wellington etc, as well as family letters Accompanying material - Accompanied by biographical notes, an obituary for George Welch and 2 family photographs George Henry Welch was born at Taita, in the Hutt Valley in 1859. He moved to Wairarapa in 1883 and farmed sheep and cattle during the 1880s and 1890s. He married Annie Kemble in 1885 and the couple had four children, William Kemble, Claude, Eileen, and Kathleen. The family homestead was at Miki Miki, north-east of Masterton and was called `Te Mara'. After years of ill health and depression George committed suicide in 1906. Quantity: 2 folder(s). 3 volume(s). He includes some of his wife's diary entries in his reminiscences. His first year in New Zealand was spent at Otepopo on the sheep station owned by Charles Suisted.
