Description: A roughly drawn male huia perched on a branch. Crawford's account of this sighting of the huia reads "On March 26th [1863] we again crossed the Maungatainoko, obtaining a view of the Tararua covered with snow. At 2p.m. we reached a pa, Tutaekara [i.e. Tutaekura?], situated on the banks of the Maungatainoko, and inhabited by a population of about a dozen Maoris ... In the pa there was a tame huia, a bird in much request among the Maoris for its feathers, and often met with in the Puketoe Range.'
