Description: View from the south end of Evans' Bay, (close to the site of today's airport) looking along Miramar Peninsula, past a small hut and the entrance to the tunnel dug by J. C. Crawford to drain Burnham Water (a former lake in the centre of Miramar Peninsula), along steep cliffs to the north. There is almost no beach below the cliffs, since the beach area was lifted by the 1856 earthquake. The hills of Roseneath and of Wadestown and Ngaio are visible in the distance. Description: Sets out the conditions of the contest, in which each contestant was required to wear a "Petone" swimsuit, with the Wellington Woollen Company's name-tab attached. The first prize was a trip to Milford Sound or a cash prize of 10 pounds stirling. Verso displays an advertisement for Nash's Leather Arcade in Cuba street Wellington, sellington "Wellington's smartest handbags"; five handbags are illustrated. Evening Post, 6 January 1936, Page 14 reports that the winner of the contest was Miss Ivy Parrott, with 6453 votes. The runner up was Miss Matheson with 4605 votes. Two copies held.
