Description: Photograph album relating to Henry Beresford Maunsell's service during World War I, with the NZ Army 9th (Wellington East Coast) Mounted Rifles Regiment in Egypt. Many of the military personnel are identified, a few with later dates added noting when some of the men photographed in the album were killed in action. The first part of the album shows soldiers leaving on board HMNZ troopship 'Orari' 14 October 1914, the trip through Hobart, Colombo, Aden, Port Said until disembarkation in Alexandria December 1914. Many scenes show the shipboard stabling for horses used by Mounted Rifle troops; others show various ships they passed on the way. The latter part shows various military scenes in Egypt, including The New Zealand Corps camp near Cairo; swimming horses crossing the Nile; Red Cross Vauxhall ambulance; groups of soldiers riding camels; horse lines; and a line of horses at drinking troughs. Description: Photographs of Henry James Barnard and his wife Helena Marian (nee Brown) with six of their eight sons. The parents are shown against a background of painted flags, with an oval cutout showing a pastel on canvas board of Mt Egmont beyond a farm landscape, upper centre. The six sons are shown in uniform, their photographs arranged around a painted decorative border. An address in Gothic script praises the Barnards for their work in providing a field ambulance for the First World War. A photograph of the ambulance is placed centrally at the base of the address. The text includes a reference to the death in World War I of two of the Barnard's sons. Signatures include that of W A Wilkinson, M P. Description: Coverage mainly Sir Guy's activities with Island Territories Dept (Samoa) and Foreign Affairs; Ombudsman. Also material relating to Sir Guy's father who saw service in Boer War and WWI and some material relating to his grandfather. Of particular importance are Colonel Powles well documented albums recording his involvement in the Gallipoli and Egyptian and Palestine campaigns, World War One.
