Description: Mounted images with annotations from Albert Armitage Salmon's 1936-1937 trip to New Zealand. The images follow the route of Salmon and his companions' travels tramping and travelling from Franz Josepf Glacier to various locations in the North Island. Photographs taken by Salmon. - The photographs show aerial images of the South Island including Franz Josef Glacier and snowfields, Fox Glacier and nearby mountains and bush, and a series of images of Bert Salmon and Mary Hansen on the ice at Fox Glacier. Also includes views of Fox River, the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki, Buller Gorge, a suspension bridge over the Buller River, and farmland near Nelson. - Photographs of the North Island show Chateau Tongariro and Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park, views of Mount Ngauruhoe, including a copy of a photograph of the eruption of Ngauruhoe on 9 December 1934, and group portraits of Irene Booth, Mary Hansen, Eric Keehn, and Reg Booth playing in the snow on Mount Ruapehu. - Other images show views of the Waikato River at Huka Falls, the Aratiatia Rapids, and geothermal activity around Taupo and Rotorua. Images show geysers and mud pools at Wairakei, the Lady Knox Geyser erupting at Waiotapu, the exterior of the Rotorua bathhouse, and views of Whakarewarewa, including hot pools, thermal springs, boiling mud, and steam. One image shows a pataka (store house) at Whakarewarewa and local Maori women washing clothing outdoors in a hot pool. Another photograph shows Maori children bathing. Description: Snapshots of family and friends associated with Ruby Victoria Jackson, taken by unidentified photographers. Many of the people shown are unidentified, or only identified with Christian names. Many of the images relate to sheep stations won by three Jackson brothers in the soldiers' ballot after the first World War, 1914-1918. They owned Netherwood (originally by a Johnson who married a Jackson), Te Arowhenua and Berridale in the Waihopai Valley; also Leatham and The Branch Station on the Branch River. Other sections of the album relate to holidays, including trips to the West Coast, and to the North Island. Several views of Wellington are night scenes. The funeral ceremonies for Miss Jackson's father, Walter James Jackson, are shown in a number of photographs; and the last sequence shows Chinese friends probably associated with Miss Jackson's links with the Chinese Anglican Mission; and the visit of Dr Toyohiko Kagawa to New Zealand in 1935.
