Description: A base cadastral map of Island Bay between Queen's Drive and The Esplanade, Selwyn, Jackson, Dover streets, the city boundary, the town belt, Lea and Rhone streets to Severn Street. Includes the proposed electric tramway route and sections for sale are marked. Named features include Baylis Proposed Wharf, Island Bay Hotel, properties of J. Reid Esq., R. Keene Esq., English Church, Public School, Presbyterian Church, Mr. Rowson's residence . Sections are numbered, some include boundary measurements. Streets are named and sites of some houses are marked. Two illustrations of Island Bay are printed on the top right and left of the map. The first shows the harbour taken from the sections for sale, while the second picture is a general view of Island Bay and includes some houses and fences. Annotations to the base map include highlighted subdivisions, some are marked 'Sold', include values in pounds sterling or boundary measurements. Additional numbered subdivisions are pencilled in between Adelaide Road and Clyde Street and include boundary measurements and sites of some houses. Some streets have been re-named. Knoll Street was crossed out, Tyne Street, was pencilled in, but Knoll Street remains and Brook Street was re-named Tyne Street. Shannon Street became Tiber Street. Milne Terrace and Cam Street have their names added, as has Moselle Street, the latter including a note referring to adjoining sections and District Plan No. 1199. The second map is a copy with ms annotations and measures 17.6 x 19.6 cm. and is mounted on the top left corner. It includes sixteen numbered sections with boundary measurements, adjoining Knoll Street, now known as Tyne Street, and Milne Terrace. The annotations are of values in pounds sterling The first manuscript map is mounted top centre, is a triangular map mounted adjacent to Severn Street. Thirteen numbered sections, with boundary measurements are shown, some marked as 'Sold' with values in pounds sterling, adjacent to Clutie Road. The second manuscript map is mounted top centre right and measures 21.1 x 26.1 cm. Includes numbered sections between The Parade and Derwent Street. One subdivision is marked Baylis Kiosk. The sea beach is marked. Names listed alongside the map refer to subdivisions 481/2/3/4 - Kingdom, Pilcher, Venables, E. C. Peers, H. Field, Barber, Butcher. Clutie Road has had its name changed since the drawing of this map. The new street name is not known Brook Street is now known as Tyne Street Base map: Plan of Island Bay, Wellington South. W. O. Description: Cadastral map of the Pito-one Town Board, showing sections 1-8 and 79, street layout, property boundaries, numbered residential sections, dwellings, railways, businesses and cemeteries. The town is divided into the west and north east wards, and is bounded by sections 19, 78 (Te Raho Kapawai), 16, 17, 9 and 10 and the Maungaraki Native (Maori) reserve. The map includes a large Public Works Department, the Pito-one Station, a brewery, timber yard, the Gear Company Works and wharf, Marine Retreat Hotel, woollen factory, schools, Wainuiomata waterworks main, Waltonville, the Working Men's Club, Oddfellows Hall, churches, and two Maori cemeteries (urupa) along the esplanade. Names on the map include: Te Ahi Parara, Te Upoko o te Poaka, Mr Tyer, Mr Kelly (shoemaker), Matene Tauwhare, Mr Reston, Mr Manning, Mr Ridler, Mr Chapman, Dr Hector and Mr E Barber. Glued to the right bottom corner of the map is a small lithograph of surveyed, numbered sections with acreage, between Whitemans Valley and Hislop roads, with the note 'this block is subdivided and plan deposited as per small litho'. Description: Plan of the proposed city of Wellington that was to be located near the mouth of the Hutt River and Petone, Lower Hutt City. The area covers 1361 acres, exclusive of streets and terraces, with 261 acres for government purposes, squares, public buildings, hospitals, schools, markets, wharves, and 1100 acres for settlers for building purposes. The town is laid out in a grid pattern, with the Hutt River running through the centre, and a terrace around the periphery. Several blocks on the plan are allocated for specific purposes, such as government offices, prison, public baths, museum, barracks, president's palace, college of surgeons. Four cemeteries are proposed on the corners of the plan, each of eight acres. Note on mount reads: This proposal was for the establishment of Wellington on the banks of the Hutt River. See also associated lettered at AT 3/1/6, regarding Cobham and the map. This edition is a photocopy from a specially drawn copy, held formally in Government House, Wellington. Catalogue card states a copy is held in strongroom, Parliamentary library. Note on map says the town is to be surrounded by 1100 farms of 100 acres each. The boundary of one section belonging to J. Watson, has been redrawn in pencil. Total measurements of roads and reserves are listed in acreas and perches. Sections are un-numbered and roads are un-named. A note states that the distance to Paraparaumu Railway Station is two and a half miles and that 50 chains of road to olbe formed to link with the Soldier Settlement. Land adjacent to the proposed settlement belongs to M. W. Donovan. Description: Cadastral map, with some topographic features, of the South Makara District from Te Kaminaru, now known as Te Ikamaaaru Bay, Ohao Bay now known as Ohau Bay, Portugese Point and Oterongu Bay now known as Oteranga Bay, Waiariki Creek which adjacent to the site of Mrs. McManaman's house, known as the Old Terawhiti Station, to Cape Terawiti, the Karori Stream, Sinclair Head to Ohiro Bay, now known as Owhiro Bay. Sections are numbered, some with acreages and owners' names. A reference key refers to 82 numbered sections with acreages. Several sections are marked as Crown Grant and includes pencilled numbers, also Native Reserves. References are made to C.T. 64 to 295 and 187/205. A pa site is marked adjacent to Mrs. McManaman's house and Waiariki Peak is named. A boundary fence is marked. Names include Janet ?Drum, J. Locket, Jackson, Furlong, Monaghan, Cately, J. McLeavy, W. Description: Surveying map of Tahoramaurea and Tokomapuna Islands and part of Kapiti Island from Ohoko to Te Rere on the eastern side and Maraetakaroro to Te Oneroa on the western side. Includes numerous Maori placenames and notes referring to land claims, such as Kapiti claim No. 2 claimed by Hare Rewette and others. Kaiwharawhara West No. 3 claimed by J. Cootes and others. Rangatira Kapiti No. 4, 1635 acres, claimed by Tamihana te Rauparaha and others. Ngatitoa are referred to in a note about a removal of a [surveying] pole. Creeks are named and the Tuteremoana government trig station is marked. Numerous pencilled notes appear to have been added later. A rough sketch in pencil has been added to part of Kapiti Island to the south of the area drawn by the surveyor, marked as Te Mingi, labelled as Crown Land, granted to David Brown Esqre.
