Description: Loose prints from album and album pages at PA1-o-1818, PAColl-9928-25 and PAColl-9928-26, chiefly images relating to the Presbyterian mission in the Whakatane District, taken circa 1919 to circa 1920s by unidentified photographers. Also four postcards taken in Rotorua district circa 1920s including Whakarewarewa village. Also two school group portraits taken 1950 and circa 1950 of Maori school girls, possibly from Turakina Maori Girls' College. The images show, chiefly unidentified, Maori children and adults, also people working for, or visiting, the mission. Pictures include: - groups of Maori school children, some outside school buildings, some with teachers. A P Godber photographed one of these groups at Te Whaiti school. - Rev John George Laughton wearing Maori shoulder cape. - group outside the manse, Maungapohatu. - portrait of young Maori girls Merihi Tamahou and Rawhina Ripaki, taken January 1920. Description: Unbound pages from two photograph albums, with images relating to the Presbyterian mission in the Whakatane District, taken circa 1920s by unidentified photographers. The images show a wide variety of identified scenes, groups, buildings and events including: - opening day of the school at Matahi. - rallys of Maori mission workers in 1921, 1923, 1924. - local Maori people. - mission hospital at Nuhaka. - portrait of Rua Kenana and Rev John George Laughton. - mission house at Matahi. Accompanying information - Five photocopied pages, provided by Binney, with the note "From Rev Fletcher's collection. Now at Whakatane Museum (1986) (Duplicated in Fowler) " Relationship complexity - Some images duplicated at PAColl-9928-27. An album with the same images, from the collection of Rev Henry James Fletcher, is held at the Whakatane Museum. Some of the images from this collection, and information regarding them, may be found in an article in Te Ao Hou, Number 73, July 1973, pages 27 to 34, titled 'Memories of Waiohau' by E E Little.
