Description: Hand-drawn map of the area from Taumarunui following the main trunk line and the Ongarue River northwards to Mangeokewa River to the Waikato River and Waihaha River to Waituhi. Creeks, streams and rivers are named, some marked in blue. Watersheds of the Mokau, Wanganui and Waikato Rivers are prominently marked as are land blocks and mountain peaks which include height in feet. Lines of the Taringamotu Company's Tram and the Mangapehe Tram are drawn and the map includes many references to tram formations. Directions with mileages are given to Lake Taupo. Description: Military map showing operations from the Auckland Fort Britomart Albert barracks, south along the military route to Cambridge, Aratitaha and Tokanui, Waikato District. Depicts military blockhouses, redoubts and forts (five in the Waikato region and over eleven in South Auckland), stockages, routes used on garrison duty only, engagements, Maori pa and kainga and the confiscation boundary as gazetted 17/12/1864 including the aukati (frontier) line. Also shows mission stations Waipa and Taupiri and geographical features, most with Maori placenames. Identifies battle sites at several places including Hairini (22.2.64), Rangiaohia (21.2.64) Kihikihi and Orakau (2.4.64), Waiari (11.2.64) and in South Auckland including Hills Clearing (8.9.63), Koheroa (17.7.63), Meremere (1.11.63). Several Maori pa and kainga are named, including Tokanui, Te Kopua, Otawhao, Otautahanga. In the Waikato regions a similar number of both redoubts and pa sites are identified. If distinguishing between the route followed by the troops and the confiscation boundary, refer to original map. Reference key at bottom of map identifies features of the map. Description: This map covers the area from Maungatautari Mountain and the upper reaches of River Waikato to the mouth of the River Waihou entering the Firth of Thames, and including Tauranga Harbour. Settlements, pa, mountain ranges, rivers, streams and lakes are marked, as are numerous sites of fights accompanied by a record of numbers killed. The Te Aroha block is prominently shaded as are adjacent areas which appear to be jointly claimed by Ngatihaua and Ngaiterangi. Boundaries of other Maori land are marked by dotted lines, some of which are named as follows:- Ngatiraukawa lands, Ngatihaua lands, Ngaiterangi lands, Hauraki lands, Waikato lands. Limits of the scale of this map have been marked with red pencil to allow for changes in size during photocopying. The orientation of this map faces south. A similar copy of this map is located at the same classification and a cataloguing record can be found under the same title. Inscriptions: Recto - Produced before the Court, Auckland 21 January 1871. Description: Drawn on a traced map, annotations depict watershed (water catchment) areas including sea, major lakes and rivers from the Manukau Harbour south to Lake Taupo, and eastwards to Tauranga and the Rotorua lakes. The boundary of 'Raglan County' is higlighted in brown, and within this the watershed division line is depicted through the county. Each division's acreage is given (291,840 for the eastern side and 307,200 for the western side). Lakes Whangape, Rotongaro and Waahi within Raglan County and Lake Waikare and Kimihia outside it are depicted. Bottom right corner reads:'45'. Description: Sketch plan showing the outlet of the Waikato River from Lake Taupo, the positioning of buoys approaching the outlet and land use in the immediate vacinity to the outlet. The location of the township of Taupo, the Taupo Napier Main Road, Tongariro, Ruapehu and Roberts Streets are shown on one side of the lake and the Rangaira No 8A land block and a public and dedicated road are shown on the opposite side of the lake. Hasures, a rock outcrop at the edge of the lake, and an area named Landing Res. on the township side of the outlet are also shown. A notation along the Taupo Napier Main Road states "Edge of steep cliffs." No soundings are shown, but pencilled lines running parallel to each other from the outlet into the lake with alphabetical and Roman numerical characters drawn on the lines suggest an area where soundings might have been placed. Description: This map is comprised of land block divisions of the area from the Waikato River to the boundary of the Wairoa River, across to Hikurangi. Part of the Coromandel Peninsula from Mercury Bay northwards is included and adjacent islands. Great Barrier Island, which was drawn on the base map, is not marked as a land block although the adjacent Raketu Island is, as is Taranga Island (Hen Island). Each land block is heavily outlined and the majority have Maori names. Okahu block refers to Turton Deeds 150 and 151. A few blocks appear to have amended names and have a handwritten note to this effect. Title supplied by cataloguer. Description: This map covers the area from the un-named Maungatautari Mountain and the upper reaches of the River Waikato to the River Waiho [sic] entering the Firth of Thames. Settlements, pa, mountain ranges, rivers, streams and lakes are marked, as are numerous sites of fights accompanied by numbers killed.
