Description: Manuscript copy of a map of proposed works in the Whare o Maraenui Block, Napier, 1898, including Napier township and major roads, the Tukaekuri River, Meeanee, the Roman Catholic Mission at Meeanee, Jervoistown, the Waverley Hotel, Napier Park, Purinui Creek, the Ahuriri Harbour and the Western Spit from Petane. Depicts 200 acres of land to be reclaimed and sold, 30 acres reserved for the Napier Borough Council, 1525 acres to be leased and the proposed channel reserves. Note reads 'To accompany letter to Chairman of Harbor [Harbour] Board Committee dated 8.12.[18]98'. Other Titles - Whare o Maraenui Stamped 'General Assembly Library'. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Description: Manuscript map of the Borough of Napier as at 1899 including the Tutae o Mahu Block and the Pukeroa Block, Tareha's [Maori] Reserve, Tareha's bridge, the Tutaekuri River, mud flats and the Napier-Taradale Road. The Spit Railway Station and the Napier Railway Station are shown. Land edged in red is the land described in the third schedule to the Napier Harbour Board Amendment and Endowment Improvement Act of 1897 and refered to in the Bill. Land edged in green is land described in the fourth schedule to the Act of 1887 and referred to in the bill. The land coloured yellow is the land described in the schedule to the above bill. Accompanying note is a three page document regarding the Bill. Stamped 'General Assembly Library'. 'Approved Eric L Gold Smith, 27.6.99'. Signed 'Arthur A Kennedy, Authorised Surveyor Napier.' Description: Comprises seven separate maps from the McLean papers that have been copied onto one map, traced by J D H Buchanan in 1948. They are 1 - Shows the placenames of the provincial district of Hawkes Bay; 2 - Maori land claims along the Mohaka River; 3 - the new 1851 boundary of the Waipawa River and the Mangaonuku Stream; 4 a rough sketch of the government purchase at Okawa ; 5 - map showing the Te Whare o te Pounamu in between the Pakiaka bush and Whakatu and Pakowhai; 6 - sketch of Tautane District showing quarantine ground for stock and Esdale's property; 7 - plan of Ngatarawa no. 1.
