Description: Shows a view of Wellington and Wellington Harbour as far as the Hutt Valley. The view includes the Terrace and Terrace prison, the streets and buildings of Oriental Bay and Te Aro on the flat, including gasometers, chimneys and churches (St John's and St Peter's Willis Street), the houses on Mount Victoria, Somes Island. Three cows and a calf are attended by a man with a staff, in the foreground. The image is similar to that at C-030-025, "[Te Aro and Wellington Harbour]", but extends further on either side. The scale is very similar, but the images of the buildings are not identical. Unlike most other Aubrey works held in the Library, both of these pictures use some gum arabic in the foreground. Inscriptions: Recto - bottom left - C Aubrey 1888 Very similar to C-030-025, "[Te Aro and Wellington Harbour]", but includes detail on both sides missing in Te Aro and Wellingon Harbour. Unlike most other Aubrey works held by the Library, this work uses some gum arabic in the foreground. Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Physical Description: Watercolour and gum arabic, 531 x 918 mm. Provenance: Possibly owned by Ivan Napier, Greytown, 1970s or early 1980s. In Harnett & Wedde winter antique auction, 1987, purchased Brierley's Ltd, Wellington.

Description: Shows the windmill, looking south towards Mount Cook (with the barracks on top in the distance), Brooklyn hills and Te Aro from the foot of Mount Victoria where Oriental Bay Road begins. There is a sandy beach in the left foreground, with a man sifting sand or shells, probably for construction. The man is being watched by three children. Bullock carts are visible at the foot of the windmill and there are several other buildings close to it. There are two hens in the yard close to a house in the right foreground, and a square wooden construction in the right foreground, possibly a small lime-kiln. The windmill, or flourmill, was built in March 1843 at the foot of Marjoribanks Street and Kent Terrace junction, the present site of the Embassy Theatre. Description: View looking down Nairn St with the spires of St Peter's and St John's Churches in Willis Street, the Terrace clearly visible and the houses and wharves of Wellington stretching into the distance. A cart is stopped in the middle of Nairn Street, possibly a grocery cart, since people are gathered around the back. Description: View from the lower end of the Terrace, looking down into the Aro Valley and Te Aro Flat and across towards Mount Victoria, Oriental Bay and the Miramar Peninsula. Part of the Thorndon end of the city can be seen on the left. Courtenay Place runs away from the viewer in the centre of the scene, with Marjoribanks Street moving up Mount Victoria. The gasometers on both sides of Courtenay Place show clearly. On the far right in the distance is Wellington College. Description: Shows ships in harbour, houses, and a man driving cows on a hillside path at right. From Brooklyn looking across Te Aro and the harbour to the Hutt Valley. At left is a Maori wood-gatherer. Tree in left foreground has the creeper kie kie growing on it. A tree has been felled in centre foreground, and there is a cabbage tree at right. Upper Willis Street runs down to Clay Point, at the junction of the present Willis Street and Lambton Quay. Thorndon Flat lies beyond ending at Pipitea Point. Colour photolithograph of this original was reproduced for "The Barraud prints" published by the Alexander Turnbull Library Endowment Trust Board in 1967. Description: Shows Australian squadron (Orlando, Calliope, Opal, Raven, Lizard & Rapid) in Wellington harbour, Jan. 1889 View includes The Terrace on the left, Te Aro Street in the foreground, Willis Street with St John's and St Peter's spires. The gasworks are also prominent on the shore, towards Oriental Bay on the right. The view is very similar to the central part of the work at D-032-002, and the scale of the drawing is very similar. Like D-032-002, "Wellington from Brooklyn", but unlike most other Aubrey works held by the Library, this work uses some gum arabic in the foreground. Description: Te Aro looking towards Mount Victoria from above St Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church. To the left can be seen part of the inner harbour where land reclamation is underway. A wooden trestle carrying a railway line crosses that part of the harbour fronting Te Aro flat. Nearer the viewer a barrier marks the beginning of reclamation for land on which now stands the Wellington Town Hall and Public Library.
