Description: A Maori family in the foreground, with the buildings of Simmonds and Hoggard's Windmill behind them (now the site of the Embassy Theatre at the foot of Mount Victoria). Part way up the hill to the left is 'Victoria Cottage' (the top of Marjoribanks Street). This was William Fitzherbert's farm cottage. The windmill was built in 1843. Quantity: 1 colour art print(s). View extends from Warepori's Village in Pitone at left, to Mount Victoria at right. Description: According to the accompanying text "The view ... is from the hills at the southern end of the city, looking northward along the longer axis of the harbour, and was taken towards the close of a fine autumn day when the light of the setting sun was reflected on the distant masses of the Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges..." The lower slopes of Brooklyn Hill are in the foreground, with the houses of Te Aro Flat in the middle ground, part of Mt Victoria on the right, ships in the harbour, Somes Island and Petone with the Tararua Ranges beyond in the distance.
