Description: A view past flax and cabbage trees to a stream with toitoi on its banks and a man paddling a small canoe, a river plain with further cabbage trees, foothills and mountains. According to the accompanying text the view is a quiet reach of the Motueka River, about 10 miles from its mouth, with the Crusader or Table Mountain (now known as the Arthur Range) in the background, with cabbage tree (ti or cordyline australis), flax (phormium tenax or harakeke) and toe-toe or arundo conspicua.
