Description: The signature `May Moore' inside front cover, is possibly that of Mrs May Moore (daughter of Sir Joseph Kinsey), who travelled and mountaineered in the areas covered by the album. Album containing 21 scenes of the South Island. Of these, 12 were taken by photographers Muir and Moodie, between 1907 and 1913. The Muir and Moodie numbers for these views are 1810, 6743, 6752, 6780, and 6782 to 6789. The photographer for the other nine images is not identified. 24 leaves are blank. Several of the Muir and Moodie views were taken on 1st January 1913, a number of which show various stages of a group crossing the Haast Pass on horseback. Description: Scenic photographs of the Southern Alps taken circa 1900s to 1910s by various unidentified photographers. Photographs (nos. 34 and 35) probably taken by Dr Ebenezer Teichelmann, and photograph (no. 60) was probably taken by G E Mannering. Most of the locations are identified, and include views from various vantage points including from the Balfour Range, the Chancellor Ridge, Gillespies Trig, Waheka Flats, Glacier Dome, Haast Ridge, Lake Matheson, the Sealey Range, the Sebastopol and Malte Brun. Description: Photographs of mountains and valleys in the Southern Alps towards the West Coast, taken by Dr Ebenezer Teichelmann. The box is entitled "W.A. Kennedy. Dr. Teichelmann" (Box 24). The images are separated into seven sequences filed in paper folders. The folders are as follows: 1: Lake Mahinapua & Brunner (nos. 1-11). 2: About Hokitika (nos. 12-31). 3: From Halcombe Pk (nos. 32-48). 4: Waiho River Valley (nos. 49-65). 5: Franz Josef Terminal (nos. 66-77). 6: Franz Josef Glacier Valley (nos. 78-86). 7: Lake Kanieri (nos. 87-123). Image no. 24 has comment on the verso which reads "Dr. thinks it is the Buller Gorge, but I am inclined to Hokitika R. Gorge" [W A Kennedy]. Image no. 63 shows gold sluicing works covered with ice and icicles. Images 81 and 82 show ice seracs on the Franz Josef Glacier at the Almer Glacier junction. Image no. 90 shows an unidentified woman wearing a fur coat and a hat sitting in a boat on Lake Kaniere (photograph taken from Camp Bay, showing bush and mountains behind) Image no. 97 shows Dr Teichelmann's cottage at Hahn's Bay (Hans Bay), Lake Kaniere. Image no. 100 shows "the old hotel at Kaniere, since burned down" (note on image verso). Most of the places shown are listed above. Quantity: 124 b&w original photographic print(s). Description: A pocket inserted inside the front cover holds two photographs of wedding celebrations at a British Army regiment in India. One of the scenes shows a large party of men and women, including British and Indian men in uniform. These were taken circa 1910. The main body of the album contains views of Canterbury, Otago and the West Coast of the South Island, taken around 1877 by an unidentified photographer. Many of the scenes are of Christchurch and environs, including public buildings, and various bridges. Source of title - Title supplied by Library Inscriptions: Album page - centre - Vol. 1.
