Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides was probably taken earlier than those on some of the preceding sheets (information from his diary). This sheet contains images of Wellington, including Wellington Airport; views from Mount Victoria; around the Wellington coast including shore with marram grass and black-backed gulls; the Petone Settlers' Memorial; Marine Parade around Miramar, with the Monowai sailing through Wellington Heads; buildings in the city including Parliament Buildings, Government Buildings, Wakefield House at 90 The Terrace, used by the Founders Club; and an old two-storeyed wooden house on the Terrace; the Corinthic loading various goods at Wellington Wharves; Lambton Quay; Cable Car terminal and views of Wellington; and the Carter Observatory. Slides on this sheet are numbered 505-528, with a gap for no. 506. Arrangement: Image no. 506 (showing the view from Mount Victoria in Wellington) was taken as part of Williams' representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England. Description: Includes cartoons about a flea problem, Tony Brunt the newcomer to the city, women bus drivers, Wellington Harbour, rowing in Oriental Bay, the runway at Wellington airport, the Wellington motorway and disputes thereabouts, buses for adults only, winds of change in the mayoralty Oct 1974, "Fowler's folly" building, the motorway again, increases in parking fees, Wellington festival 1975, sculpture on the waterfront, school passes on buses, raw sewage in Titahi Bay, busdrivers hanged from a Christmas tree 1975. Arranged chronologically, according to the dates of "Dominion" clippings in Heath's albums (at E-521/547-q). Those for which no date could be found are arranged at around the estimated date. Inscriptions: Recto - Signed, but almost all undated, by artist. Quantity: 22 original cartoon(s). Physical Description: Ink on paper, sizes approximately 510 x 595 mm.
