Description: Survey maps showing the proposed raising of embankments along the Hutt River from the bridge which carries pipes, the railway bridge to the Hutt Bridge. Culverts and sluice pipes are marked. The index sheet is a survey map of the area from the pipe bridge, the railway bridge to the Hutt Bridge, on which the areas covered by each of the four sheets are marked. Streets are named, as is Strand Park and an area marked Rugby Union. Sheet 1 shows the approximate land to be acquired for the east stopbank at Pitt settlement. Black Creek is named and includes an area of flood control described as driven rail breastwork. The size of land in perches to be acquired for the stopbank is marked, includes amounts in pounds sterling, seemingly to be paid in compensation. Names include Eastside Industries Ltd., J. J. Bourke & Co. Ltd., R. G. Buckleton, Rokfire Electric Battery Factory, Wellington Educational Board (Randwick School), H. M. King, Lower Hutt Borough Council. Sheet 2 includes two maps which join to form one, of the east bank from the railway bridge to Black Creek to Strand Park. The area to be taken for the stopbank includes the measurement in perches, amounts in pounds sterling, seemingly to be paid as compensation. Names include Wellington Rugby Football Union, Lower Hutt Borough Council and H. M. King. Hutt Valley High School is marked. A pencilled note states 'Lorry to travel along here'. Sheet 3 includes two maps of the east bank area from Strand Park to the Hutt Bridge and Ward and High Streets. The area to be taken for the stopbank includes measurements in perches. Names include Wellington Rugby Football Union, T. Hansen, Lower Hutt Borough Council, W. T. Strand and F. L. McKenzie. A tennis court, gymnasium, a corrugated iron building, 1st Lower Hutt Rover Crew Building, 3rd Lower Hutt Scout Hall are marked. St. Albans Avenue and Market Street are named. Sheet 4 is of cadastral sections at the western stopbank along the Hutt River at Alicetown, including Mudie, Montague, Valentine and Buckley Streets.
