Description: A collection of postcards and printed views (possibly from a magazine) of New Zealand scenes primarily of towns and cities rather than scenic views. They include one of two Maori women washing clothes at Rotorua, another of the Royal visit in 1927 and a family group of seven men and three women possibly taken in Belfast. A number of the postcards have been used. Also included are five original photographs which have been captioned with the family connections: a soldier in uniform, possibly named Ralph Ferguson; Uncle Henry Babe's wedding photograph; cousin Violet Bradford in America; Albert and Elizabeth (Eliza) Babe (brother and sister) and four others; Thomas and Fanny Babe (grandpa and grandma) with Eliza, Harold, Albert, Olivia, Queenie and Gladys. Description: Card / booklet of photographs shows a humorous illustration of a smiling landlady holding up a bill for board and lodgings. Inside the flap are 12 photographs of Maori, the Ohinemutu Church, Honga track, the post office, Huka Falls, Aratiatia Rapids. The handwritten message on the verso is to Mary, from Olive and Walter from Ruhi Street Rotorua. Message reads: "Dear Mary, Hope you are well as this leaves all up here at present. Winter is setting in alright isn't it. I've just finished a letter to Hilda. Maggie's baby is doing fine. Is it true Miss Ferguson is to be married. I wish her & Mr Woolley as well every happiness but you will miss her won't you. Everything is quiet as can be here. Walter awfully busy with the garden & I'm putting my nose in of course. Description: The collection includes two different sets of photographs. The first is the photographs from the collection of Thomas Vernon Mitchell taken while he was serving in the army in the Middle East in the Second World War. They include tourist scenes of the ancient olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane; the city of the dead in Cairo; street scenes in Jerusalem, Tiberias and Aleppo; tombs of the caliphs in Cairo; the Dead Sea; the tower of King David, Jerusalem; the Hotel Yarkon, Tel Aviv; the citadel entrance, Aleppo; and Tiberias Hot Springs. Other images are a 24th Battalion chuch parade in February 1941, two views of Mitchell's grave, the effects of a sandstorm on a military camp in the desert, Mitchell and his friends on rickshaws, Papakura infantry at Trentham in October 1940, and the 24th Battalion party at Cairo 1941.
