Description: The first plan (MapColl-832.45gmbd/1876/Acc.29312) shows a surveyed section of Rimutaka Road at Abbots Creek, from the beginning of the new road (numbered 496), over the Abbots Creek bridge and southwest to the second bridge at the small creek where the road forks. A small section of the old road is shown. The second plan (MapColl-832.45gmbd/1876/Acc.29312) shows a more detailed version of the survey, from the beginning of the new road, past the Abbots Creek and bridge. States that contents of road 1 rood 2.6 perches; includes letters JVTLES. Both maps have note: 'District Engineers Office Masterton 25.8.[18]76'. Acc.29311 has ink annotation '497' next to the path of the old road. Includes two letters, one to the Principal Secretarys Office (MapColl-832.45gmbd/1876/Acc.29314) requesting a conveyance for land and a second (MapColl-832.45bmbd/1876/Acc.29313) from the Engineer to the Wellington Superintendant regarding purchase of land for the new road from Josiah Viles, butcher, Featherston for £60. Includes photocopied sheets about James Baird and the auction where the maps were bought. Quantity: 2 manuscript map(s). 2 letters.
