Description: A hand-drawn copy of a topographic map of P.W.D. survey plan 8554 for the proposed route of the railway line from Paekakariki to Wareroa clearing in the Horowhenua on the Foxton line. In two areas an alternative railway line is drawn and all railway lines, not recommended and recommended, are referred to in a reference key. A cross sectional plan of the same area is included. Description: Cadastral map with topographic markings, showing the Lowry Bay Estate of over 54 acres on the coast at Lowry Bay proper. Paddocks in the Waiwhetu Flat (Seaview) are also shown. The Lowry Bay District is outlined, with link measurements (bounded by the Waiwhetu District and the Harbour District). Two sections bordering Lowry Bay District are shown - 19 (owned by G Grey) and 18 (owned by D Dick). Note on catalogue card: Compiled at time of dispute over wharf at Lowry Bay, 1877-1887. See accompanying copy of correspondence from file relating to Lowry Bay (regarding McIntyre of Lowry Bay Estate requesting permission to construct two jettys, the Wellington Harbour Board and the Marine Department). Annotations on the map before copying show the position of the proposed jettys. Note: A reader (Mrs Small) thinks the date should be 1879 or earlier because the house detail has been added later). Description: Survey plan of the Ihuraua Block, approximately 12,000 acres, bounded by the Iparaonei Native land in the north, government land in the northeast, Pari-atua range in the west and the Tutumae and Managaroa Rivers in the south. Contains 38 Maori names are over circa 4.6 miles of the Ihuraua River, including the names of several pa sites (and excluding the names of streams); identifies the Te Angi fern bush and the fern range (Taihowhiti) on the map. Karamana's Reserve (21Ac) and the Horopapera Reserve are located in the northeastern edge of the map on government land. Written on map: AAFV 997 W24. See Info map 260, T25, 1978. Description: Topographic map of the area from Cape Palliser and Cape Turakirai [sic], the Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges, to the Waituiti and Mataikuna Rivers. Shows runholdings, Maori reserves and lands not purchased, and various Maori names for natural features in the Wairarapa valley and on the coast. Rivers and streams are named. Boundaries of runholders' properties are marked and names include W. Spinks, C. Sharp, G. Scott, M.A. Buxton, J. Taine, F. Burton, G. Moore, M. Hill, Hales & Murch, R. Collins, S.M. Scroggs, Donald and Rhodes, J. Northwood, Smith and Revans, C.R. Bidwill, A. Gillies, R. McMaster, P. Hume, J. Kelly, R. Russell, C. Matthews, Camerons, D. Riddiford, R. Barton. Other Titles - Sketch map of the runs in the Wairarapa and East Coast District. In the title, Wairarapa refers to the valley around Lake Wairarapa, and the East Coast refers to the coast of the Wairarapa district from Cape Palliser to Mataikona. Description: Manuscript map, with Maori only text, depicting Lake Rotorua, and lakes Rotoiti, Rotoehu, and Rotoma; several Maori tracks in the region. It specifies land beonging to Ngati Pikiao, Ngati Awa, Ngati Rangiteaorere, Ngati Whakaue, Ngati Rangiwewehi and Nga i Terangi. Other land belongs to Tarawhai, Uenukukopako, Tapuika, Kawerau, Tuwhare and Tarawhai. Maori tracks are named Paritangi, Tikipuna, Tearataukanihi, Tekaharoa, Tetahuna. The map was drawn by a Maori representing the collective knowledge of the Ngati Pikiao hapu. For more detail, see 'Traditional cartography in the Pacific Basin' edited by David Woodward and G. Description: Plan of the proposed city of Wellington that was to be located near the mouth of the Hutt River and Petone, Lower Hutt City. The plan covers 1361 acres, exclusive of streets and terraces, with 261 acres for government purposes, squares, public buildings, hospitals, schools, markets, wharves, and 1100 acres for settlers for building purposes. The town is laid out in a grid pattern, with the Hutt River running through the centre, and a terrace around the periphery. Several blocks on the plan are allocated for specific purposes, such as government offices, prison, public baths, museum, barracks, president's palace, college of surgeons. Four cemeteries are proposed on the corners of the plan, each of eight acres. Note on map says the town is to be surrounded by 1100 farms of 100 acres each. Note on map before copying states each blank square is 8 acres. Stamped Dixson Library, public library of NSW.
