Description: An enlarged navigational chart of the Hau Ridi harbour entrance, now known as Napier, and the Hawke Bay, is the larger of the two maps. Details on the enlarged map include soundings and descriptions of shingle, low water areas, Martha Reef with references to the sinking of the Brig, Martha, and channels for boats going towards Taupo and Wai Tute Hari [sic], now known as Tutaekuri River and a sketch of a Maori settlement belonging to Ngati Te Whatuiapiti. The second map is of the coast from Hau Ridi to the area north of Tolaga Bay, and includes named islands, Young Nick's Head, Poverty Bay, and various features along the coast. A faint pencilled note beginning 'A shoal or rock...' is written along the left edge of the map Includes detailed handwritten navigational notes Note on catalogue card states: Probably orig. or Wing's own copy of orig.
