Seated centre foreground wearing a large greenstone Hei Tiki (pendant) and cloak over her knees is Raiha Puaha Prosser, the granddaughter of Te Pehi Kupe, a former paramount chief of Ngati Toa. Description: Portrait of Wiremu Parata Te Kakakura Waipunaahau seated out side a raupo whare. Possibly taken at a hui on 12 September 1891, when Ngāti Huia gathered to receive the infant son of Governor Onslow, who had been named Huia out of respect for Māori. This photograph was previously identified as being at Karaka Bay, Wellington This photo was probably taken at the same time other photos in this collection were also taken at Karaka Bay with Heeni Te Rei (a close relative of Parata's) and Kereopa Tukumaru. Heeni is wearing black and this may indicate that the occassion is a tangihanga (a funeral). Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).

Description: Possible grave site of Te Rangihiroa, Waiorua - Kapiti Island. Taken by Philip Lionel Barton. Te Rangihiroa, the younger brother of Te Pehi Kupe, died at Kapiti (either Motungarara or Waiorua) in 1842. He was afterwards buried at Waiorua. About the year 1877 Wi Parata (a grandson of Te Rangihiroa) built a wooden fence around the site to protect it from roaming stock. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
