Description: Cadastral map, with some topographical features, showing Taparahi No. 1, No. 2 and a portion of No. 3 land blocks in the Thames and Tairua regions of the Coromandel Peninsular. Taparahi No. 2 and 3 are further divided into Taparahi No. 2A consisting of 984 acres, Taparahi No. 3A, 574 acres, Taparahi No. 3B, 40 acres and Taparahi No. 3C being 1715 acres, 3 roods and 13 perches. The area of Taparahi No. 1 is shown as 3098 acres, Taparahi No. 2 as 3280 acres and Taparahi No. 3 as 2330 acres. Land blocks surrounding the three Taparahi blocks are named as Hihi and Piraunui, Puke[tui], Pakirarahi No. 2, Ruapekapeka, Owhataroa No. 1 and Ipuwhakatara. Topographical features indicating bushland, rivers or streams are shown in black ink. Red ink lines, suggesting boundary limits between the blocks are also shown. The following Maori words are also written in various places on the map; Te Ruakaka, Tawhitiwhiti, Koronga, Te Pukahu, Puwhakakiki and Kaira. Description: This map covers the area from Maungatautari Mountain and the upper reaches of River Waikato to the mouth of the River Waihou entering the Firth of Thames, and including Tauranga Harbour. Settlements, pa, mountain ranges, rivers, streams and lakes are marked, as are numerous sites of fights accompanied by a record of numbers killed. The Te Aroha block is prominently shaded as are adjacent areas which appear to be jointly claimed by Ngatihaua and Ngaiterangi. Boundaries of other Maori land are marked by dotted lines, some of which are named as follows:- Ngatiraukawa lands, Ngatihaua lands, Ngaiterangi lands, Hauraki lands, Waikato lands. Limits of the scale of this map have been marked with red pencil to allow for changes in size during photocopying. The orientation of this map faces south. A similar copy of this map is located at the same classification and a cataloguing record can be found under the same title. Inscriptions: Recto - Produced before the Court, Auckland 21 January 1871. Description: This map is comprised of land block divisions of the area from the Waikato River to the boundary of the Wairoa River, across to Hikurangi. Part of the Coromandel Peninsula from Mercury Bay northwards is included and adjacent islands. Great Barrier Island, which was drawn on the base map, is not marked as a land block although the adjacent Raketu Island is, as is Taranga Island (Hen Island). Each land block is heavily outlined and the majority have Maori names. Okahu block refers to Turton Deeds 150 and 151. A few blocks appear to have amended names and have a handwritten note to this effect. Title supplied by cataloguer. Description: This map covers the area from the un-named Maungatautari Mountain and the upper reaches of the River Waikato to the River Waiho [sic] entering the Firth of Thames. Tauranga Harbour is included but Rangiwhara Island at the entrance is not drawn. Settlements, pa, mountain ranges, rivers, streams and lakes are marked, as are numerous sites of fights accompanied by numbers killed. The Te Aroha block is prominently shaded as are adjacent areas which appear to be jointly claimed by Ngatihaua and Ngaiterangi. Boundaries of other Maori land are marked by dotted lines, some of which are named as follows:- Ngatiraukawa lands, Ngatihaua lands, Ngaiterangi lands, Hauraki lands, Waikato lands. A typewritten sheet of explanatory notes is affixed to the map. These state that this map was used in the Maori Land Court held at Fort Britomart, Auckland, in January 1871. The action concerned ownership of the Te Aroha block and was drawn on behalf of the successful claimants. The orientation of this map faces south. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s) photocopy.
