Description: Album of photographs taken around the Taupo District. Many are contacts from 35mm film; some are prints, taken by John Tenison Salmon between 1955 and 1965. Most of the images are indicative of John Salmon's interest in photography. Examples can be seen in the series of images taken in various lights on the Taupo Golf Links including on misty mornings, the "Picket fence" of fishermen standing at the mouth of the Waitahanui River Mouth on Lake Taupo, a series showing Pohutu Geyser playing, views of the Aratiatia Rapids and Huka Falls, and views of Mission Bay where he spent camping holidays. Three views show Maori ramparts on Motutaiko Island (Lake Taupo), several show dwellings at Waihi, and one shows a group of Maori children in a hot pool at Whakarewarewa. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides includes a view of cows in trial harnesses at the Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre; the Anchor Butter factory at Te Awamutu (Te Awamutu Dairy Factory); the main street in Te Awamutu and the Riverina Hotel; the Waikato River from various angles; the Sand, Shingle, Metal works beside the Waikato River; two views of audience and participants at the Ngaruawahia Regatta; Queen Street in Auckland and views in the area including Auckland Harbour, Rangitoto, Devonport area, Panmure and Mount Wellington, and the crater on Mount Eden. Slides on this sheet are numbered 408-432 with gaps for those removed for lectures on New Zealand. Arrangement: Mr Williams transferred slides (nos. 414, 420, 426-427) showing Main Street in Te Awamutu; looking down the Waikato River with the road bridge; Queen Street, Auckland and view of Rangitoto and Auckland Harbour. These were taken as part of a representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England. The lecture series are filed in later sequences. Description: Transparency slides of New Zealand selected by Mr Williams as a representative collection to be used in a series of lectures on his return to England. This sheet shows aspects of Holmridge farm at Waihue, including a view of cows in the milking shed; cows in a field; a stream and Tutamoe peak in the distance; sheep being rounded up and penned preparatory to being shorn, Clive Woods shearing a sheep; an aerial topdressing plane in the air; a family group on the tray of a truck; family group of Clive, Barbara and young Vern; one of "Grandpa" Vernon Woods with his grandson "young Vern"; sheep station near Dargaville. Various scenes away from the farm show Queen Street, Auckland; Auckland Harbour with Rangitoto in the distance; main street in Te Awamutu; Mount Pirongia; a bridge over the Waikato River at Hamilton; the Grand Hotel at Rotorua; a steam vent in Park Square, Rotorua; the gardens at the Government Sanatorium, and a game of bowls in progress; and steam vents and the Wahiao meeting house at Whakarewarewa. Arrangement: These slides were selected by Mr Williams from his original sequence to create a representative collection of New Zealand images which he used in illustrated lectures on his return to England. Description: Julius Hogben and his wife Kathleen on holiday in a Morris Minor, ca 1952. Includes - The Morris Minor parked overlooking a coastal view near Mokau. Dairy cows and pastoral Taranaki. Lunch at the roadside. Pukekohe countryside. Sheep blocking a road. View from a hotel window, Hamilton. Mount Te Aroha. Waikato River near Tuakau. The lake at Hamilton. In the Waitakere Ranges. Julius and Kathleen Hogben's house at 4 Ohinerau Street, Remuera, Auckland. Includes - View of a corner of the living room. The back garden with Julius looking at the delphiniums. Front garden with a woman weeding a flower bed. Julius Hogben with a grandson at Eastern Beach, Auckland. Houses on Makara Road Karori. Number 51 is marked, and is proably the home of Bert Roth, Margot Roth (nee Hogben), and their sons Bert and Stephen. The houses are newly built on a stark grass covered hillside. The children play in sections under development. Julius Hogben and grandsons in the garden of the house in Ohinerau Street, Remuera, Auckland. In other photographs they are with their mother and grandmother. Two photographs at the end of the album are of the Roth family. One shows Bert Roth and his two sons, the boys in a sand pit. The other shows Bert and Margot Roth with their sons at T?oyford Flats. As one of the boys is a baby this was taken before the family moved to the house in Makara Road. Quantity: 1 album(s).
