Description: Drawn on a survey template, the cadastral map shows part of section 3, Pito-one (later Petone), sections numbers 10 and numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 of section 10. Smaller sections are surveyed and show acreage. Note on map reads 'The boundaries were pointed out by Pakitaurae - Apiaka Renata, Heni Ihaka and Rangiwhaia who also instructed me to make the survey' written by O'Donahoo. Sections 1-4 face The Esplanade. Written on section 8 is 'W[orks] D[epartment] 939. Also written on map is 'Crown Grant 9G97, Hutt 3' and 'Deeds Index 3/9'. Signed by Chief Engineer. Written on map: 'WD (Works Department) 937', 'OG'. Note on map signed by O'Donahoo, that map correct with respect to the survey of Native Lands, 24 July, 1889. Description: Surveyed cadastral map of Pito-one (Petone) no. 1, consisting of 1a, 1b, 1c, Block 13, Belmont District, Lower Hutt, bounded by Jackson Street, Gear Street and the Hutt Road. Names of Maori owners written on sections are: Hana Te Puni, Taniora Anaru, Mawene Hohua, Matene Tauwhare. The section 1D (four acres) has buildings on it. Survey certified and signed by Edward V Briscoe, 4 June 1890, according to the Survey of Native lands. Shows the Hutt District and part of the Harbour District and the Lowry Bay District. Each district is divided into numbered 100-acre blocks, listing owner's names, including: Molesworth, Watt, Child, Capt. Daniell, Hanson, Hunter, Wicksteed, Capt. Smith, Catchpool, Dr Evans, Kettle, St. Hill, Alzdorf, Riddiford, Stokes, Bidwell, Duppa, G Robins, J Forbes, W Tod, E Dunlop, D Grant, A Tennant, Hart, Partridge, Wieford, Parke, Bevans, Col. Wakefield, Jackson, T Wallace, Bevan. Shows over 20 Native (Maori) reserves. The map was surveyed by S.C. Brees, who was the principal surveyor for the New Zealand Company. Description: Cadastral map of the Pito-one Town Board district, showing sections 1-8 and 79, street layout, property boundaries, numbered residential sections, dwellings, railways, businesses and cemeteries. The town is bounded by sections 19, 78, 16, 17, 9 and 10 and a Native (Maori) reserve. The area west of the Wellington - Napier railway is shaded as hill country. The map includes a large Public Works Department, the Pito-one Station, brewery, timber yard, the Gear Company Works and wharf, Marine Retreat Hotel, woollen factory, schools, Wainuiomata waterworks main, Waltonville, the Working Men's Club, Oddfellows Hall, churches, and two Maori cemeteries (urupa) along the esplanade. Names on the map include: Te Ahi Parara, Te Upoko o te Poaka, Mr Tyer, Mr Kelly (shoemaker), Matene Tauwhare, Mr Reston, Mr Manning, Mr Ridler, Mr Chapman, Dr Hector, and Mr E Barber. Description: Plan of the proposed city of Wellington that was to be located near the mouth of the Hutt River and Petone, Lower Hutt City. The plan covers 1361 acres, exclusive of streets and terraces, with 261 acres for government purposes, squares, public buildings, hospitals, schools, markets, wharves, and 1100 acres for settlers for building purposes. The town is laid out in a grid pattern, with the Hutt River running through the centre, and a terrace around the periphery. Several blocks on the plan are allocated for specific purposes, such as government offices, prison, public baths, museum, barracks, president's palace, college of surgeons. Four cemeteries are proposed on the corners of the plan, each of eight acres. Note on map says the town is to be surrounded by 1100 farms of 100 acres each. Note on map before copying states each blank square is 8 acres. Stamped Dixson Library, public library of NSW.
