Description: Album of landscapes taken by various photographers including Wheeler & Sons and the Burton Brothers, circa 1870s and 1880s. All the views are of New Zealand except the last sequence (p 33-37) showing Rio de Janeiro. Of particular interest are views of a wool wagon drawn by oxen, crossing a ford; a series showing an unidentified curved viaduct under construction (p 28-32); and a number showing a farm run by J F L Jetter at Te Puke when the land was partially cleared, with cattle grazing in paddocks, and Mr Jetter standing by a horse in a paddock in front of his home. North Island views include views of Mount Tarawera after the eruption in June 1886, and views of the Pink and White Terraces before they were destroyed in the eruption. Description: Album of photographs collected by Albert Percy Godber which related to his interests. Photographers include Daniel Manders Beere, William Thomas Locke Travers and James Ring. Scenes in Australia include Adelaide waterworks, Currency Creek, the Murray River Bridge, the Thorndon Park Reservoir, and Port Adelaide River road & rail bridge. New Zealand scenes are chiefly in the South island, many relating to early railway construction, particularly areas involved in working on the Dunedin to Balclutha railway along the Waimakariri River, and around the Purakanui Cliffs. Of particular interest throughout the album are the construction and design of railway features such as bridges, viaducts and tunnels. North Island railway scenes include the Rimutaka Incline, the bend known as `Siberia', the Summit, and Pakuratahi. Description: Album of scenic views of Tasmania, Sydney and wider New South Wales, and of New Zealand, both North and South Islands. Views of lighthouses include Derwent Lighthouse (Tasmania), Macquarie Lighthouse (South Head, Sydney), and Farewell Spit Lighthouse (Tasman Region, New Zealand). The New Zealand photographs are nearly all taken by Josiah Martin, and include one that is a collage of scenes he photographed, and one of Maori weapons, with captions to say they were deposited [in Auckland Museum] by Captain Gilbert Mair. Description: Album created by G E Mannering, some photographs taken by him. A number of these are of children, only identified by nick-names, or Christian names; and one of an older man in a top hat is named `Grandad'. Several views of the children are taken at the beach at New Brighton in 1893. An interior photograph of an office `The consulting desk' was taken by `HMP'. Photographs also include a scene of hay making, and several of scenes relating to sheep farming, including sheep drafting, and one of 120 bales of wool from `Double Hill Estate' loaded onto four wagons, towed by W.A. McLaren's traction engine. Other scenes in Christchurch include the Christchurch Cathedral; and early photographs of Christ's College, when the buildings were in `corrugated iron Tudor' style; and a house with a century plant (agave americana) in the foreground. The rest of the scenes are mixed, with a few tourist scenes of Maori outside a meeting house, and a group in a hot spring at Tokaanu, and a newspaper cutting with photograph of Rewi Maniapoto from the Christchurch Press (no date). Description: Album of photographs. Most of the views of Canterbury and Thames were taken by Daniel Mundy, between 1868 and 1872. New Zealand scenes are mostly taken by Daniel Mundy, and include many landscapes; a few taken in Christchurch City; several show the Raukapuka Station and Raukapuka Bush, near Geraldine; several taken in and around the Thames Goldfields, at Moanatiri Valley and Te Puhi Flat, with one view of the workings of `The Wild Missouri. Bound by Parliamentary Library, using blank pages to bulk out the contents. Red buckram, half red morocco Catalogued by Parliamentary Library as the work of I W Wilson and ca 1910. The signature and style is that of L W Wilson, although the signature appears to read I W Wilson. The Alexander Turnbull Library holds the original watercolour for one reproduction, the view of Lake Manapouri (reference number A-123-002). It also holds second copies of several other reproductions, 5 with a separate printed portfolio cover titled 'New Zealand scenery. From water colour drawings by L W Wilson Esq. S and W Mackay, booksellers, Wellington'(reference number A-192-018/022). The portfolio-style cover with the latter group includes cotton ties opposite a spine binding, suggesting that the reproductions were unbound. Dating: Wilson left New Zealand in 1904. He probably had these copies made before leaving. The view of Manawatu Gorge was also published as a postcard. The Library holds a copy at E-279-160 sent in 1906. Title supplied by Library. Description: Album of photographs relating to mountains and mountaineering in the Southern Alps. A photograph of George John Roberts, Charles Edward Douglas, and Leonard Cockayne (p 1), was probably taken by George Roberts' wife, who took one of the group at the same time but in different positions (See image at PAColl-5926-13) C H Stonor is seen with "Dr Teichmann" [i.e. Ebenezer Teichelmann] (p 40). Two photographs at the end of the album are of Tasmania, one showing a bush scene with a small waterfall; and one taken by John Watt Beattie of Hobart from the bay.
