Description: Volumes 1-3 contain a journal 1833-1852. Volume 3 includes the diary of C Davids, a carpenter attached to the Bay of Islands mission in 1827-1828. Volume 4 contains correspondence 1833-1863. The journals cover Colenso's Cape Reinga journey, March 1839; the establishment of the mission at Ahuriri, Dec 1844-Oct 1845, including a Wairarapa journey; Autumn 1846, Wairarapa and 1848 autumn and spring journeys including a crossing of the Ruahine range; Dec-Jan 1849-1850 and May-Nov 1852 Ahuriri journal. The correspondence includes letters of botanical interest from Allan Cunningham, and others from James Busby and William Hobson. Appended is an article on the kiwi and draft Maori-English dialogues.
