Description: Survey map of Maori land blocks in the Otaki district, from the Waitohu Trig southwards to the Hinetua and Pahiku blocks, east to the Kaingaraki no. 1 & 3 and Kohatu a Humai blocks, and west to the Ferry Hotel. The major focus of the map is the identification of 42 named rural Maori land blocks in the vicinity of the township. Land within the township itself is depicted as sections. Dennan's peg is marked in the Urukaraka block. Two areas are labelled "surveyed by Swainson" and "surveyed by Hughes", and another area is marked "Crown grant to Matene". The main road, tracks, streams and the course of the Otaki riverbed (not named) are shown. Similar to map IRN 1148858, but slightly less detail. Scale probably 5 chains to the inch. Description: Published by Whitcombe & Tombs, 1930. Presentation copy to James Cowan by H. E. Partridge with a dedication message to Cowan from Partridge tipped in to front of book, and loose papers which were laid into the book. These include photographs, clippings, correspondence, research notes, maps, and drafts. The photographs consist of eleven prints which include portraits of Hera Puna, Te Rauparaha, and Tamati Waka Nene. They also include one image of Mt Ngauruhoe erupting (with a group of people watching it [circa 1930s-1940s]), an image of the 'ceiling of Maori Church' in Otaki [Rangiatea] showing kōwhaiwhai, and another image featuring tukutuku and a poupou of Maui fishing up the North Island 'Te Ika a Maui'. Description: Map of the estate of A. Hall in Otaki between the road and the river, along with a small part across the river. Sections, which appear to be fenced, include acreages of the whole, while some sections include areas of bush marked topographically and also numerically as acreages. The section across the river includes acreages of ploughed and unploughed land. The Hautere Road and the main road from Wellington to Otaki are named. Mark's gate and house are marked adjacent to a water tank. A site of a second house, with a stable and windmill, is marked adjacent to the river.
