Description: Land clearance and development projects during the 1950s. Photographs show examples of techniques and machinery used for bringing in land such as rolling and crushing scrub and using cattle to crush and clear lupins. Much of the land developed for agriculture during this period was pumice land. There is a slide sequence designed to show methods for establishing pasture on this particular soil type, and a number of other slides showing the finished product -- productive farms in the Rotorua area. Landblocks named in this collection are, Newstead Block, "Rushden" Waipukurau, Lynwood F. S., and Okahukura Block. Description: Permission slip to allow Messrs Kingston and Hill to visit the sanctuary on 15 December 1950; gives a list of eight conditions of the visit, including the fact that no children under 16 years old could visit without an adult, and no guns or dogs could be taken. No fires were to be lit, and the birds were not to be molested or property damaged. The certificate is pasted on to a sheet with two small photographs of the gannet colony.
