Includes displays viewed and events attended by the royal couple, as well as travelling between towns by car and train. Places visited include: the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wigram airport, Canterbury University, the view over Lyall Bay from Truby King's house, Dunedin war memorial and the war memorial at Waitaki Boys' High School, Government House in Wellington. Description: Comprises photographs, probably taken by John Porteous, relating to his educational activities (mostly in native schools) and family. The localities are in the Gisborne Region and include Tikitiki, Tuparoa, and Reporua. Specifically, one group of photographs record a rugby match between Tikitiki and Rangitukia schools, and two others show Reporua school children collecting driftwood from the beach and participating in an Arbour Day celebration in 1912. There are a general views of Reporua and Tuparoa and one of Reporua School. Other images are of people grouped in front of unidentified meeting houses. Description: Photographs taken during the royal tour of New Zealand made by the Prince of Wales in 1920. Many of the images are of military inspections and displays by school children. There are also displays of Maori dancing and singing, the sailors of the HMS Renown, on which the prince had travelled , prior to their soccer match in Dunedin, the prince addressing the crowds etc. A number of the images are in two-part panoramas. Also included are four scenic photographs by the New Zealand Tourist Department which may have been taken in 1903. The photographer for the tour photographs was Guy. Description: Photo of man and two children in a boat on the Mokau River photographed in 1928 by Robert E Wells. Until I bought the first outboard motor on the river, I had to row these 2 boys and self, one mile to school, and one mile home each day - for a Ferry Allowance of 6d per day!! And - out of this, I was expected - and had to - keep the boat in good repair, and replace anything that might require it - oats, rowlocks etc. I went into the bush and cut rata vines to replace broken ribs - and patched cracked and broken planking in boat.
