Description: Shows Prime Minister Richard Seddon with muddy hands, as he digs at the site of the Port Chalmers dry dock. He is speaking to a man in suit and hat. The suited man is William Cable, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board in 1904-1905. He was known to point out often that "big shipping repair jobs were constantly being sent out to Lyttelton or Port Chalmerse reason that Wellington, with the best commercial harbour in the country, had no dock at all" (See Cable's obituary, Dominion, 10 June 1922 - pasted in NZ Obituaries, volume 2 (1922), page 18) Quantity: 1 b&w photo-mechanical print(s). Description: Photographs of Homewood, Karori, Wellington, and of Charles John Johnston, his family and their friends. There are also a number of images relating to Wanganui Collegiate School where C J Johnston's younest son, Octavius, went to school about 1906. Most of these are group photographs of the pupils, the school cadets and sports teams. Two show a rugby match between the Wanganui Collegiate first 15 and the Old Boys played during the Easter break, 1906. The photographs date from 1905 to 1908. The second album records the wedding of Caroline Margaret Featherston Johnston to Percy Warwick Blundell of the Evening Post (Wellington) newspaper family. This took place at "Taumaru", Lowry Bay, the home of Caroline Johnston's grandparents, Sir Francis and Lady Bell. The sequence of images shows the progress of the wedding from the bride and her father, Justice Harold Johnston, leaving the house to the guests at the reception. It provides a detailed view of that vanished institution; the "society wedding". The wedding took place on the 2nd of February 1935. Quantity: 48 b&w original negative(s). 54 photocopy/ies.
