Description: Overlooking Wanganui between 1884 and 1886. In the foreground, alongside the river, are waka, and a Maori encampment on what was once the fishing village Pakaitore. Motoua Gardens are on the right. Rutland Stockade is in the centre. Beavan importers, the firm of S M Manson, photographic rooms of C H Monkton (probably vacated), and the Commercial Hotel are visible. Photograph taken by William James Harding. Note on back of print PAColl-3722-3 reads "After 1883 (Masonic Hall completed) and before 1887 (Rutland Stockade still standing, S M Manson's store on Taupo Quay in earlier state than 8427 1/2 - dated 1887.)
