Description: Map showing the East Cape, Bay of Plenty, Tauranga, Northern Hawkes Bay and just south of Taupo. Shows Te Kooti's approximate route, and direction (arrows on line) and his engagements with the Hauhau people. Stops at certain pa are dated, some added text (before photocopy) e.g. "Final escape to King Country", "Visit to Takangamutu". Key stops included Opape, Tologa Bay, Turanga, Whakatane, Rotorua, Te Pourere, Puketapu. The linking areas for all these points was the Urewera country. Te Kooti was a Rongowhakaata leader, military leader, prophet, religious founder, pursued by colonial forces, eventually took refuge in the King Country where Te Kooti remained until pardoned in 1883. Description: Ink and pencil annotations on partly hand coloured map (incomplete - only part blue colour and some red for proposed roads). The pencil annotations add crosses (population) and accidental orange brush stroke indicate draft copy. Map is hand coloured to a key that reads: 'Lines of road proposed to be made - red. Local position of Military settlements - red circles. Lines of road to be made at a future period - brown. The crosses (black) represent the distribution of the Native Population approximately each cross representing about 100 souls.' The military settlements are most dense in the Wanganui, South Taranaki, New Plymouth, Waipa, Waikato and South Waikato districts and north of the Manawatu River. No such settlements are identified around Wellington, Auckland, Napier or the East Coast north of Mahia. Quantity: 1 map(s). Description: Map is hand coloured and probably the manuscript to the later published editions. The key to the map (from later editions is) 'Lines of road proposed to be made - red. Local position of Military settlements - red circles. Lines of road to be made at a future period - brown. The crosses (black) represent the distribution of the Native Population approximately each cross representing about 100 souls.' However, this not written on this edition. The military settlements are most dense in the Wanganui, South Taranaki, New Plymouth, Waipa, Waikato and South Waikato districts and north of the Manawatu River. No such settlements are identified around Wellington, Auckland, Napier or the East Coast north of Mahia. Most populated areas are the East Cape, Whanganui River, Waikato district. Description: Cadastral map of Maraekakaho district, Hastings depicting the boundaries of Donald McLean's run (which includes over 11,000 acres of Crown land). It borders the Mangaonuku and Maraekakaho streams, Raukawa West and Ngatarawa no.2 and 3). Other McLean's identified on the map include Captain McLean and A. McLean. Settler owned property on either side of McLean's run is depicted as Mason's run (freehold), Syon's run and HWP Smith's run. A smaller section of Crown land and the Aorangi reserve also share the boundary. Land in private ownership is washed in pink watercolour. Crown land, land under application and some other land within 'Boundary of McLean's run' is not highlighted. Tracts of unhighlighted land are marked with a letter and acreage. Rivers and streams including the Ngaruroro, Okau awa, Mangatahi and Te Heke are also shown. Matapiro is indicated. Quantity: 1 manuscript map. Description: Sketchmaps of land near Ormondville, southern Hawkes Bay, depicting part of the boundary of the Eparaima Maori Reserve, the Tauraekaetai, the Hua Tukituki and the Ohinehua Streams, a road, bush, and fern hills. The first is a sketch of 'Paul's Native (Maori) reserve', which runs from Ormondville, over grass flats, between the Tauraekaetai and Ohinehua Streams, and includes bush on both sides of the Hua Tukituki stream, to a vertical boundary point. Across the boundary is bush designated for 'white people'. On the second map of the same area, entitled 'Reserve as it w[oul]d be available for white people', the boundary is horizontal and located two-thirds along the Tauraekaetai Stream. The area above the boundary is marked 'all good bush'; the area below is marked 'good bush available for white people'.
