Description: Map showing the East Cape, Bay of Plenty, Tauranga, Northern Hawkes Bay and just south of Taupo. Shows Te Kooti's approximate route, and direction (arrows on line) and his engagements with the Hauhau people. Stops at certain pa are dated, some added text (before photocopy) e.g. "Final escape to King Country", "Visit to Takangamutu". Key stops included Opape, Tologa Bay, Turanga, Whakatane, Rotorua, Te Pourere, Puketapu. The linking areas for all these points was the Urewera country. Te Kooti was a Rongowhakaata leader, military leader, prophet, religious founder, pursued by colonial forces, eventually took refuge in the King Country where Te Kooti remained until pardoned in 1883. Also journal for 1897 which deals largely with school inspecting in Hawke's Bay. Henry Thomas Hill was the Inspector for Schools for Hawke's Bay and the East Coast. Also an image of Patara Te Tuhi, and a sketch map of the Waikato District tipped in to the back cover. Correspondence includes a letter from C. [Charles?] Garlick, of Taneatua, dated 31 January 1928; a letter from A. R. Weal, of Pukeatua, Te Awamutu, dated 20 February 1930, which contains information about Te Awamutu Troop, Waikato Cavalry, provided by his father T. Weal; and a letter by George Graham [signed also as Hori Kereama], of Auckland, dated 11 March 1942. Graham's letter includes discussion relating to the legal status of the Treaty of Waitangi, Māori participation in both World Wars, Kīngitanga, and Māori leadership. Description: Three photographic prints of images taken in Wellington by photographer James Bragge between circa 1860 and circa 1902. A wide view overlooking Thorndon, Wellington City, taken from The Terrace circa 1870. It shows the city buildings, including St Mary's Cathedral, Government House, Old St Pauls's Church, domestic houses, and early reclaimation work on the harbour's edge. On extreme lower right of frame, two women walking on a path are visible. A view taken of four men posing on Swinburne's Wharf, Wellington. Visible in the background are wooden buildings on the shoreline and some moored sailing vessels at the wharves. Print is captioned "Swinbourne Wharf Willis St". A view of colonial wooden buildings lining Lambton Quay, with a horse and cart on the Quay beside the shoreline. In the foreground is a pile of planks; and to left of frame is a large wooden building. Print is captioned "Lambton Quay showing back of the Central Club". Also includes a card matt with an embossed photographers stamp pasted on to it reading "James Bragge Portrait & Landscape Photographer Wellington N Z". No further provenance information known. Processing information: The prints came to the Library with card mounts which were a later addition to the prints. One card mount was retained as it has the photographer's stamp attached. The other mounts were discarded as they were not of an archival housing standard.

Military engagements and massacres are identified across the map. Massacres are identified at Matawhero, Ohiwa Harbour, Whitecliffs and Waihi. Engagements are identified at Mohaka, Ngaatape, Puketapu, Turanga and Ahikerera Pa on the East Coast and Whakatane districts, and Rauparoa Pa, Otatau, Otoia, Wairou, Moturoa, Ruapuru and Te Ngutu o te Mana (identified as Tito Kowaru's own place).
