Description: An extensive view of Parihaka village, with a meeting house on the right, a large number of low houses within fences in the centre and a white European house (Te Whiti's house) in the background to the left, at the edge of the bush. Probably dated some time after the event by the artist. Description: Looking down to Manukau Harbour, with a sailing ship at a breakwater on a point of land to the left, and small craft at a jetty on the right. A few houses strung along shore with sections laid out in the foreground and a small church to the left. Mangere mountain is in the middle distance with Puketutu Island to the right. The background volcanoes are Ihumatao, near the modern airport. Description: Looking across wide plain with meandering river; group of buildings in left foreground by a stream are the Helensville church and the Helensville Sawmill, the large building with a chimney. The brown piles near the sawmill building are likely to be piles of wood. The Kaipara River and Harbour are in the background. Watercolour dated from the fact that Fox paid an official visit to Kaipara in 1864. Buildings identified from a related photo of Helensville by Daniel Beere in the Photographic Archive. Description: Shows group of wooden buildings in the foreground, possibly barracks, with people talking. A barrel, a trunk, a dog and a gun carriage are amongst the main group of people. Two men on horseback on a path to the left may be soldiers.There are horses in a corral in front of a large shed to the left. A path with steps leads past a telegraph pole to buildings on a rise in the middle ground, one building possibly being a church. Mount Egmont in the background. The constructions and people are probably associated with the raid on nearby Parihaka in November 1881.
